Q Re:forced_video_storage_path_prefix

If I want to set the forced_video_storage_path_prefix option to a UNC path, is the following format correct:

forced_video_storage_path_prefix=\\\\appserver\\videohd

(that is \\\\<host>\\<share name>)?

TIA

It has to exactly match whatever you see as the start of one of the recording dir paths listed as part of the seeker/video_storage property.

think of it not so much as a path to where to store the files, but as a text match to your defined recording locations. It will compare the string to each configured recording entry, and choose the one(s?) that matches up.

I wasn't aware of the seeker/video_storage property. That makes it easy.

If others are looking, the answer is that the

\\\\<host>\\<share name>

format is correct.

Thanks for the info, guys.

it is a per encoder setting, that restricts that encoder to only recording to a recording directory that starts with the designated prefix. It's actually best suited to working with a network encoder, to ensure that it writes to local storage. It can also be used to ensure that different tuners write to different drives, to help bandwidth control, but this also results in very lopsided data distribution (where the drive tied to the highest merit encoder fills much faster than the others...)
