TV Cards!!!

Ok, this is the second TV card that I have had and both of them have the same annoying problem. The problem is that sometimes, the TV card is not recognized when the computer is booted. There is no device found in the device manager. I have to shut down the computer, remove the card, reseat it and then it usually works for several days.
One card I had about a year ago was a no-name clone based on the ATI Theater chipset. I now have a Hauppauge Win 1600 card. BNNoth cards have the exact same problem. Both cards are PCI ex1 cards and both feel really loose in the card slot.
This has happened on two different motherboards, and two different cases. Both cards seem to not fit well with respect to the case.
Anyone else ever see these problems? Is it the cards not being in spec and made at the same contract board builder?
Or is it ASUS and their PCIex1 slots not being in spec???
Is there anyway I can thicken the traces on the boards so that the fit is better?

Thanks for any insight!

Are the slots correctly aligned with the openings in the case? I had a problem like that and fixed it by loosening the motherboard mounting screws, with the cards plugged in, and then retightening them. It might fix your problem too.

If your case isn't allowing your cards to seat right, then stop using it. You are liable to start shorting out cards and/or run into these sorts of issues. None of them are worth the headaches that a better case wouldn't fix.
