Blu ray playback has to have receiver

I rip blu-ray's to a drive. I have a HD200 attached directly to my TV Samsung 37B650. I get the picture just fine but no audio. I have tried this with hdmi and with component w analog red/white. On another TV I have a HD200 connected to my onkyo reveiver then to my tv. The sound is fine when it goes though my receiver. Is there a way so that I could get sound on blu-rays without a ht receiver?

Thanks

You need to read up on the limitations to the HD200. The HD200 can not decode DTS sound tracks, it can only handle DD 5.1 therefore if your Blu-Ray Disc does not have a DD audio track, then you will not get any audio from the television you are trying to watch it on. There are many threads here that have recommendations of software that will alter the DTS soundtrack into a DD 5.1 audio track for playback on any television with the HD200.

If you're hooking it up with the red/white RCAs, you'll need to use tsMuxeR or eac3to to remix the audio. You can search "bluray ripping software" and there is a thread that goes into details about it.

It should still act the same way because the TV can't decode the DTS. Remuxing it with the AC3 mixed track will still work fine. I like to mix the AC3 and the DTS together so I can have it play on any setup in the house if needed.

I know I've seen a TV that can decode DTS as well so that's a possible solution although I'm sure no one wants to buy a TV to fix an audio issue.

I have been looking for a step by step faq and can not find one. Do you know of one or can you provide a quick step by step

  1. AnyDVD HD - this is the software that will decrypt your blurays. You can also use it to do an exact rip/backup of the BD. It isn't necessary to rip, some do though.
  2. BDInfo - This will give you the ability to search through the BD disc and find the right .m2ts file/files to remux. Some will have different versions of the video (Director's Cut, Unrated, Extended, etc..). I usually choose the longest version.
  3. tsMuxeR - This program allows you to add/delete sound tracks, subtitle tracks, etc..I use it to demux the 1080p video, the DTS-HD sound, and the PGS subtitles.
  4. eac3to - This is probably the more important part for you. You will use this to remix the DTS-HD to AC3. I use the eac3to GUI. It is the most simple.

I like to start with BDinfo, find the right file and go straight to tsMuxeR. From there I will select the .m2ts file and select everything I want out of the file and then demux. Once it is demuxed, I will run eac3to and remix an AC3 track from the DTS-HD. I will then run tsMuxeR again and build a .m2ts file consisting of the 1080p track, the AC3 track, the DTS-HD track, and the subtitle track.

If this wasn't much help, try this post. Essentially the same thing. Good luck!

Well I have learned how to use clownbd. It has worked very well and has allowed me to watch a blu-ray movie on my hd-200 without a av receiver. I have not experienced any syncing issues. I am using it on my whs server. I am sure glad I chose to build a beefier server. I can record a show, run clownbd and have comskip running simultaneously. The wonders of a quad and lots of ram.

What format are you saving to? Any settings you'd care to share?

When I used Clown_BD, I would always leave the sound unconverted and then set it to mix an AC3 track. Make sure to select the "Network Media Tank Audio Options" check box. If I didn't check this, it gave me trouble creating an AC3 track. Other than that, I always tell it to create a .m2ts file. Hope some of this helps.

I still ended up going back to using tsMuxeR and eac3to seperately. This method was much faster in my opinion.

where in clown bd can you tell it to use dts or tru hd and also convert it to ac3. I would love to do this but I only saw the option to convert to ac3 and that's the only audio file it uses when it muxes.

It has been a bit since I used Clown_BD but I think this should help. Let me know if it doesn't.

In the picture showing the Step 1 process, make sure the Network Media Tank Option is selected. This allows you to select Unconverted and AC3 sound.

In the picture showing Step 3, it shows the selection for Unconverted and AC3. Make sure they are both selected and that will leave the HD audio (DTS, TrueHD, etc.) how it is.

Good luck.

A plug for Clown_bd : What a fantastic piece of software. I used it yesterday to convert a BluRay DTS audio track to AC3 so I could watch it on my HD100. Great results and easier than using eac3to and tsmuxer separately.

Oh, and the new Star Trek movie was excellent as well.
