Placeshifter Slow to find my WHS after Router change
Before I changed my router placeshifter would find my WHS server instantly and I'd double-click it and go on my way. I changed to a new router. Now Placeshifter takes 2 or 3 minutes sometimes before my WHS Sage installation appears in the list of servers (actually, it is the only server so the list is empty for a little while until it finally shows up).
What am I missing? Is there some router setting or port setting I was supposed to set on my router? This has been happening for a few weeks and I'm finally frustrated enough now to post The old router was a DLINK DGL4300. New router is a DLINK DIR-655.

Is the placeshifter on your LAN or outside your LAN?

Everything is inside the LAN. I was hoping it was as simple as an INI or registry setting or something. The machine with placeshifter sits in the entertainment center and is running win/xp/home. I only use that machine to listen to music and watch sage.

Not sure if it will be helpful, but have you double checked that UPnP is enabled on the router? It should appear under advanced settings in the router config. If it doesnt show up you may need a firmware update.

Thanks, UPnP was already enabled. Is there any port or setting, or something in the installation somewhere that may have been baked in that would require a reinstall due to a router change?

I'm not sure, I have not been with sage long wnough to know how it does it's detection routing. I assumed it would use something UPnP like, but it could be something like a broadcast packets. Does the router enable any type of firewall on the LAN side? I didnt think may did.
Are you connecting via wireless to a wired server? If so, have you tried connecting via a wired connection? Do you have any VLAN's setup on the new router? Some times they come configured in a wireless isolation mode where wireless is on a different subnet/vlan. What are the local IPs of the 2 devices?

To close out this thread, I reset the router to factory defaults and re-entered my basic information and now all is fine again. Don't know what was messed up but something got funky in the router. If that didn't work I was planning on re-applying the firmware.
