SageTV no longer recognizing the presence of an encoding device (HD PVR)
I recently installed the latest SageTV software along with upgrading the HD PVR to the latest firmware. I installed on Win7 64bit. It was running fine for a week. Then it seemed to crash hard. So I rebooted both the Windows Machine and the HD PVR. But nothing I do helps. SageTV won't recognize my HD PVR. I confirmed that the HD PVR is working by using Arcsoft Recorder software which shows a great 1080i picture.
Any suggestions other than a fresh install of SageTV? (I need to get in the habit of imaging my machines) |

Check sage.properties to see if the tuner is listed on the mmc/ignore_encoders line. If it is, delete the line. ... edit the properties file while SageTV isn't running; you may need to edit the file in the VirtualStore.

Code:
mmc/ignore_encoders=NVIDIA DualTV YUV Capture|HD Audio Digital in|NVIDIA DualTV YUV Capture 2| mmc/last_encoder_name=Hauppauge HD PVR Capture Device |

another strange thing is that if I run sagetv and forget to run the service (SageTV service is Enabled), it loads as if all my settings are gone. its obvious this is because the service is locking some file but still a strange thing to happen. possibly a warning upon launch in a situation where SageTV Service is Enabled but not started when SageTV is launched

ok, well I fired up SageTV and the tuner was recognized this time. I hope this DOES NOT become a common occurance.
Is there a HD PVR FAQ? I ask because when I begin playback the video stutters. I remember long ago reading a fix for this. I can browse the forums for the fix but am also hoping for a FAQ. Second problem is that when I change chanels an audio sound byte is repeated in a 1sec loop from the old TV channel and continues with the 1sec audio sound until the new channel is displayed |

That almost sounds like you installed SageTV with the UAC turned on. If this is the case, then some of the Sage files are not in the Program Files/Sage folder. This can cause some of the issues you are seeing. I believe the files are located under the user folder somewhere and need to be copied back to the Sage Program file folder. Do a quick search for some more information - you can probably just search for UAC and get all the information you need.

Location of the VitrualStore on Windows 7 x64, note you have to turn on "View hidden folders' in folder options of control panel;
