(Resolved) HD-100 BETA Firmware Update 20100209 0 - what does it actually include???
I just saw the notifcation post regarding the new beta firmware for the HD-100.
The problem is it doesn't list what the updates are. It simply says "The HD100 update contains all the core updates from the HD200 firmware that are compatible, which includes most updates except standalone mode features and certain media limitations." That isn't much help! Can anyone actually say what has been changed? I think there have been about eight HD-200 firmware updates since the last HD-100 firmware update. Does this mean every non-standalone feature has been added from the last eight HD-200 updates? Exactly what features have been left out due to "certain media limitations"

Andy,
It's easy enough to read through the HD200 updates notification thread to see the core changes since 7/31/09 (The last HD100 firmware update.). My question would simply be which core changes are "compatible" with the HD100 and which are not? I'm most interested in the keyboard support and vizualizations. Thanks, Tom

I didn't have more info when I made the announcement post & I've now updated the post. (I made the original post w/o those details because I knew a few people were waiting to try it.)
And, as far as I know, keyboards & visualizations aren't going to work on the HD100. - Andy

Thanks! I thought it a little unusual to have so little information.

The first 100 I updated seemed to have much snappier response (I run a fairly vanilla sagemc setup) after the update.
Moving around within and between screens feels much faster. Just did my other 2 and very curious to see if they feel the same. Thanks

Same here, both my HD100's running SageMC seem have become very snappy now after the beta update!

Anyone else have a display freeze with the new beta firmware? It happened to me after a few days of use. Same thing happened with the latest firmware on my HD200 but not a problem with the previous beta or the latest official release version.

I have had the display freeze once or twice. I chalked it up to "that damn router" (just flashed dd-wrt to it in an attempt to get it to be more stable ... and it has been with the exception of a screen freeze or two). That is, until I saw this. The only other thing that has changed on my system in addition to the router is I flashed my HD-100 with the new firmware. So perhaps there is something to this.

I've been noticing freezes as well. Also, if I start playing music and enable visualizations, my HD100 will lock up within a few minutes.

The UI is running a little faster for me on my STX-100, however anything that tries to render a picture (cover art) is EXTREMELY SLOW, specifically the Music and Video libraries. It becomes almost unusable.
I can't say for sure it's the beta firmware causing this, but it wasn't happening last week.....

Unfortunately I dont have time to play beta tester for Sage this month, so I've gone back to the last released version of firmware, and no more black screens since. EDIT: I don't mean this in a snarky way, I mean that I literally dont have time to submit a bug report. Last edited by nick_l; 02-17-2010 at 11:35 PM. Reason: clarify |

Just installed the beta and has brought my HD100 to a crawl at times, definitely going to have to roll back to the last stable as it was running super smoothly with it.

FYI: I also backed out of the beta firmware update with my HD-100's. Both would become very slow with poor response in Menus. Video playback was virtually always fine once it would start, it just would take a while to navigate to the correct area and get the media started. I backed out of sagemc first without success and then downgrading to the most recent bundle non beta bundle. After moving to the downgraded bundle I can say that it did solve my issues.
Thx, K |

Hmmmm ... interesting how different setups have different results. Running two HD100's with the BETA in both and no issues. Go figure!

Me too. I wonder if it is a java jeap issue or something like that. Perhaps the new features take more resources....

Good thought. I did bump my Java Heap Size up to 512 a while ago ..
