FIOS users - New STB in beta

I was on the phone to Fios technical support yesterday because the STB is real finicky with HDMI connections. According to tech support the Motorola 6400 series has issues with many different HDTVs. What happens is that the HDCP handshake doesn't always work and you have to reset your TV. It happens with my DH's Sceptre and our Sony Vega. I've also tried running the STB through a receiver and the HDFury 3 with no joy.

The current *solution* is to use component cables instead of HDMI.

While talking with tech support it was mentioned that Fios has Cisco/Scientific Atlanta STB in beta. He wouldn't say when the beta would be finished. Assuming that Fios is testing the Explorer 8300 and like models I wonder if the firewire ports on the back can be used for at least channel changing.

I'm not sure if it still applies to Fios, but FCC rulings from a few years ago mandates that all Cable companies to have working firewire ports on their STBs. So if yours isn't working, you can print a copy of the ruling and show it to them. I have FIOS and a Motorola QIP-7100, and the channel changing works via firewire.

I have the Motorola QIP-7100 working for channel changing as well but I can't get it to stream back video for channels which I know are unencrypted. I have a Motorola DCH-6200 and the video streaming for those same channels works fine.

Has anyone had any luck using the Motorola QIP-7100 for firewire video recording? Any tips to getting that working?

I have, but in order to do it i had to have the component portion currently working IE the tv was on or using the hdpvr. Seems firewire video was turned on when component video was working to a tv/hdpvr.
