You can use EDL files with M2TS in Sage to simulate chapters.

True, but an extra step which is why mkv works best for me.

I submitted a bug this morning regarding the issues with the SageTV mkv splitter

@ Andy,

Looks like I figured out the problem, and it is rather strange. It is either a Haali issue or an mkvmerge issue or both. I was helping someone test unrelated to SageTV getting Haali to work with mkvs. We both came up with the same results:

- Haali + mkv created with MakeMKV bitstreams DTS(MA) without issue, TrueHD plays fine
- Haali + mkv created with MKVMerge stutters like crazy with DTS(MA), TrueHD plays fine

Almost all of my Blu Ray mkvs were created with MKVMerge, which is what I was testing SageTV with. I have a MakeMKV mkv that I keep for testing purposes, so I booted up SageTV, and the MakeMKV mkv with DTS(MA) played flawless. The same exact mkv movie that I also created with MKVMerge stutters like crazy.

I am thinking that Haali is the culprit as the same MKVMerge mkvs play flawless using the MPC Matroska Splitter in MPC HC.

I am going to post a bug on the Haali site. As point of reference I am testing with the latest Haali.

Very interesting...all the more reason for SageTV to get the internal mkv splitter working correctly so we don't have to worry about using Haali.

Hey guys. I tried the above meathod of stopping the use of sage splitter and sage is still using it. I would love for it to use the mpc-hc splitter because before v7 I had great success with it. Would there be a way to disable it other than the above meathod? Also, if not would you be able to add that functionality to the sage graph tool?

I could not get SageTV 7 to use the MPC splitter as well, it continues to use the internal splitter. Using the MPC splitter would fix the problems I documented above with using Haali (DTSMA mkvs created with mkvmerge don't work)

This is why you think SageTV 7 won't use MPC MatroskaSplitter? I will test out when I get home.

Did you see my previous post regarding Haali causing the problems with mkvmerge created DTS(MA) mkvs, curious since you said t hat you had no issues with your files if you were using an older version of Haali or if your mkvs were all created with MakeMKV and not mkvmerge

That's a way to make sure that Sage can't use its MKV splitter (it unregisters the filter). The reg key should work unless they changed something.

I only have one MKV with DTS-MA, it was muxed with mkvmerge, but I'm not sure what version (it was a while ago).

I'm using Haali N-1, haven't had a chance to test out the latest build.

Cool, when I get home I will test out unregistering that filter. One other question, right now the only way to get PGS subtitles that are embedded in mkvs working is to use a combination of FFDShow and Haali (http://www.mediasmartserver.net/2010...itles-in-mkvs/). I am guessing that assigning the ffdshow video decoder and ffdshow subtitle filter to mkvs using your graph plugin might do the trick for SageTV? I am posting a bug to SageTV regarding their internal splitter not supporting PGS subtitles in mkvs

It might. The plugin doesn't do any wiring, it just adds filters. I may add more detailed graph creation control later, but I need to talk to Jeff about how that will impact their internal process (i.e. what happens if they try to connect a pin that's already connected or if I touch it do I need to make sure the entire stream is wired properly).

OK, just tried adding the FFDSHow Video and FFDShow Subtitle filters to the graph, no luck.

Also, I uninstalled Haali, registered MatroskaSplitter.ax and unregistered StrmDeMux.ax as you suggested. Unfortunately no luck as it appears that SageTV still insists on using its own mkv splitter and not the MPC one.

Also Andy, maybe you have a good idea, how do I go about suggesting new features? I submitted a bug request stating that PGS subtitles in mkvs don't work, and all I did was get a response back from the SageTV Beta team that it doesn't work because it is not supported. I honestly would have expected a more professional response like "It doesn't work as it is not a supported feature currently, but it will be noted as a suggested feature...". Is there a different channel I should use for SageTV?

Did support offer any suggestions on this? Maybe they removed the ability to bypass their demux in recent builds.

AFAIK, sending feedback through the beta support is the right way to submit a feature request. I usually send feature requests to Jeff, and he's pretty cool about humoring me - even when I know it's not going to make it in .

I'd be surprised if they added BD subtitle support soon since there are already workarounds (i.e. external SRT), but I can ask for it too.

Now that I tested it out I have to follow up with support regarding. I am working with them now on trying to get HD Audio working with the SageTV mkv splitter (just uploaded two test files for them)

You can mention to Jeff that the importance of adding PGS subtitles support for mkvs is for two reasons:

(1) When MakeMKV creates an mkv from a BluRay it keeps the subtitles as PGS. Since MakeMKV is becoming an increasingly popular tool it would only benefit SageTV to support this feature (especially to draw in potential new customers who may use MakeMKV exclusively)

(2) The developer of MKVToolnix just added support for PGS subtitles in mkvs yesterday thanks to several of our requests. Since almost all mkv creation tools use mkvmerge I would hope this means that PGS subtitles ini mkvs will become more universally adopted in the near future

Sorry to bump this thread off topic, but have any of you guys gotten vc-1 playback to work in v7? I've tried everything and for some reason it is just not working. I used the exact same config in v6 and had zero problems with vc-1.

Thoughts?

I tested out a few VC-1 mkvs and they played fine. I think I changed around what filter to use though. If I recall I assigned MPC Video Dec to VC-1 mkv for my 5670 GPU HTPC and assigned MS Video Decoder for my core i5 HTPC

Mkv or m2ts? Mkv can use the arcsoft tmt or wmv dmo (comes with windows), m2ts only works with the tmt filter (I've submitted a ticket to get the wmv dmo added).

.m2ts huh? Then that is what my problem is. I had stopped using the tmt filter. I guess I will have to install it on my client machine.

Thanks.

Well, that didn't work. TMT codec will decode h.264 just fine, but not vc-1. The only vc-1 codec I have gotten to work is the 64bit version of the mpc codec, which sagetv can't use.

you mean it won't connect or doesn't play right?

there is an x86 rev of the MPC-HC filter.

the arcsoft decoeder won't connect in graphedit. It will in sagetv, but it won't play. The only vc-1 codec I've ever gotten to work properly in sagetv v6 is the mpc-hc filter. The x86 rev works in graphedit, but playback is blocky (no dxva for intel). The x64 rev works great in graphedit. The windows dmo vodeo decoder for vc-1 works, but the video is choppy. None of the vc-1 codecs work in sagetv though.

I did not have any problems with any codecs in v6 of sage and windows 7 with my ati card. I need to have time to test my ati card in the client to see what happens.
