I converted my kitchen computer, a core I7 to a snow leopard hackintosh after buying my wife a Macbook pro and experiencing SL.

The only missing on the kitchen computer is a sage client. However, I installed VMWARE fusion and cloned my old win7 kitchen hard drive. I am AMAZED at how well sage client runs virtualized on win7. It works great! It plays everything flawlessly and interfaces well with SL.

I would switch most of my software over to Mac in a heartbeat, but 2 factors keep me from doing it.

1) Slower updates (obviously) then windows/linux counterparts.
2) (Personal Opinion) Awful licensing policy. Shouldn't have to re-buy licenses for the same software on different architectures.

i have to agree with that. i left my windows server license for dead when i switched over, and left my client license for dead when i got the HD200.

Just out of curiosity, what is stopping you from using Placeshifter for Mac 6.6? I am using it even with the SageTV 7 xml and it works better than my mediamvp.

What's the dealbreaker here?

I use the Mac version of the Sage server software, so i cannot upgrade until that is released.

Yeah, I am doing the same thing. It works great with the v7 skin.

The only PC left in my house now is the Sage server. That said, my macbook is running windows 7 on parallels so I get the best of both worlds.

7.0.11 & Mac placeshifter

Can I still use the latest Mac placeshifter version? When do we get more Mac support?

I didn't think SageTV ever announced release dates? But maybe I have that wrong?

I couldn't agree more on this topic as well!! Forcing you to buy a new license because you change your OS is really poor. Even offer a discounted "upgrade" program to go from one platform to another.....anything would be better than the current policies in place now.

I am guessing that it's because Sage implemented a different licensing scheme for Windows & Mac. The licences are in a different format for the two platforms so not interchangeable. There is no way of invalidating the Windows licence you trade in for a Mac licence so there is nothing to stop you continuing to use it or sell it.

No, but typically (through most of Sage 6) Mac betas have only followed the Windows/Linux ones by a week or so....

It may be time to try eyeTV again.... =/ (i hated it in v2)

In repsonse to brent's question why don't you ask Sage how many licenses they have sold for OSX and been registered they must have that information?

To you others about the mac licenses you are blaming apple for the software manufacturers problems. They are the ones that should allow it. Have you looked at the price of quickbooks for the PC vs Mac? Its a huge difference for no good reason except that it is less of a user base and requires equal if not more development.

Off my soap box now and have to ask if the client for 7 will be out soon? I upgraded and I use a client on my laptop for around the house and other locations but haven't seen or heard anything. Its a bit concerning?

Neil

Lack of true server/client implementation is what has kept me away from EyeTV.

Lack of Mac support is what is starting to push me away from Sage.

Version 6 is working OK for now, but the indicators are that Sage doesn't have the resources to support it's Mac users, and doesn't seem to be doing anything to fill that gap. It's unfortunate. Sage has the advantage, but can't seem to capitalize on it.

I'd be OK with just about any answer, other than "we don't know...".

Elgato do have a true true server/client implementation but unfortunately not with Mac clients as they have a very cool looking client app for the iPhone & iPad http://www.elgato.com/elgato/na/main...TV-app.en.html

They are even able to use the Elgato Turbo.264 HD encoding dongle to convert & compress to H.264 on the fly for streaming live TV over the Internet & 3G.

Does the Sage client play back well in Parallels, or are you strictly using Placeshifter? I just tried loading my Boot Camp partition into Parallels and the client playback isn't really up to snuff. . .

I'm getting tried of rebooting all the time just to watch TV so it would be great to be able to get Parallels working reliably.

As a side note, the Mac client never really played back my HD PVR content satisfactorily anyhow. I've been running Windows 7 via Boot Camp for quite some time now.

It would be really nice if we could have a confirmation from Sage that there will indeed BE a V7 of SageTV for Mac. I don't mind waiting a little but it's a bit unsettling that we have had no word & it's over a month since the public beta of V7 was released for Windows AND Linux. It's normally straightforward to produce a Mac version of Linux software given that both have their roots in UNIX.
