I apologize if it is posted somewhere, but I could not find an clear answer by searching. Are we going to see a client 7 for Mac?

I'm sure we'll see one, the real question is when. I'd guess soon after the release of v7 for Windows/Linux.

I hope they start with the Placeshifter for Mac update. I use the placeshifter client a lot and v6 looks are f*%# up when connecting to v7 server.

Not everyone wants to infect their Mac with Windows, and seriously, running the v7 Windows Placeshifter through Bootcamp on my Mac isn't a viable, or reasonable solution.

Apple didn't design the AppleTV for the anal-retentive 1080p pixel counters. They designed it for the masses who will be very happy with 720p because they won't see a discernable difference between it and 1080p content. They also designed it with the features that the masses want and will use, not the ones which cater only a select group of elitists.

Me too, and I would like to have some sort of IR blaster support for the Mac so that I can finally use my HD-PVR with Dish Network. I would gladly pay the upgrade fee from version 6 to v7 just to have these two features.

Ha! That is kind of what I was saying Khris. But if I'm an anal-retentive pixel counter elitist, then you're an apple apologist

Apple designed the AppleTV for those that don't know any better - that I'll agree with. Boxee, GoogleTV, WDTVLive, SageTV HD300 etc are all better imo.

I was agreeing with you. Sorry if it seemed I was pointing a finger at you.....I wasn't.

This I don't agree with however. I don't think it's fair to say that it's designed for "people that don't know any better".....a generalization perhaps, but not completely accurate.

The main reason I'll be buying an AppleTV is because of Airplay, and everything else that comes with it is a bonus.

I understand. Was just trying to have some fun with you

Again, this was me having some fun. Then again, there's some truth to what I said. There will obviously be many like you who know the limitations of AppleTV. But there will be many more who buy it because... because it's from Apple. Nothing wrong with that exactly, just shows how good Apple's been at marketing themselves as "the" solution.

Now that Sage V7 for Windows & Linux has been released it is deeply depressing & worrying that there is not even a beta of a V7 client for OS X. I have a Windows based server plus HD200/HD300 but my other clients are Macs so I cannot upgrade the server until the V7 Mac client is available.

I sure hope your expectation wasn't that they would have a beta of the Mac OSX client the day after the release. I would hope that you would give them a little more breathing room than that. It is quite possible that absoluteyl no work was done on the Mac side while Windows/Linux development was ongoing. They may have just started now. Or maybe it's in private beta. No one knows and no one will until probably the beta is released.

I didn't know I could use placeshifter 6 with V7. So I tried it. GUI is a bit slow and live tv is not good. With OTA, I just fall back 10 seconds or so, and all is well. That I could live with until v7 is available. However, HDPVR recordings are very bad. Cannot watch as the video freezes while audio continues. Anyone found a workaround? Loading a third party codec for h.264 or something of that nature?

well, having been a purchaser/user of the macintosh versions of sage since they first came out, i would say, without a doubt, this is the longest gap btwn win/linux beta release and mac beta release.

and again, for me, it is not the lack of product, it is the lack of information from sage - historically the mac betas have trailed the others by a week or so, but not with 7.

for 3 plus years of following the macintosh development and beta cycle, this has been typical:

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=34098

a couple day or week lapse between different platforms, but a regular schedule. that stopped. i assume at this point that a mac version of v7 isnt coming, so i am making other plans...

It's unfortunate that more info from Sage isn't available regarding the Mac versions. If I had to venture a guess I would say the overhaul to v7 was such a huge undertaking that no Mac developement was done during the beta phase. Which was not true with other developement cycles of previous versions. I still think there will be something coming before the end of the year. My 2 cents and no insider info.

I'm also interested in a Placeshifter v7 for Mac. I love V7, but connecting to my Windows based V7 server with V6 placeshifter is worthless. Streaming quality is unbearable on my LAN

I own a mac client license, but never used it much since I found it too buggy for regular use. So, I don't care if Sage discontinues the client, but if they don't update placeshifter - that would be a problem

I don't know what problems you have had with the Mac client but it works fine on a whole variety of Mac hardware running Snow Leopard (Mac Pro, Mac Mini, MacBook & MacBook Pro).

In practical terms it doesn't make much difference whether I am watching TV at home using client or placeshifter software. However I have client licences for all these machines not placeshifter licences so they would need to be replaced if placeshifter were the only V7 Mac product.
