IR woes

Hi everyone,

I am trying to define the commands for changing channels of a cableTV box. I have a USB UIRT to learn and transmit IR codes.
When I want to generate codes for a new device, I get the rotating "busy" cursor, and then SageTV hangs. I need to kill the process to continue with it.

Could someone let me know if this works in their setup? If it does, any ideas where I should look to fix it on _my_ system?

Thanks,

Mark

Have you tried using the small stand alone program called LrnHelper? You can figure out the codes for each button and test sending them to your set top box independently of SageTV. The Lrnhelper program will help you isolate the problem between the USB-UIRT and SageTV.

I did not know of that program, I'll take a look at it!

But regardless, I'd like to know if IR learning works in sageTV 7 beta for other people. How about on your system?

Thanks,

Mark

EDIT: btw, IR transmit and learn used to work on my system! That was back in the old days, with Sage 6.

Anyone? Does the IR learning through USB UIRT work as expected?

I have a USB-UIRT as well. It works just fine for me. One thing I learn about it though it I try to program it not in direct view of my LCD. My LCD seems to throw out tons of IR.

I had this problem in a previous version, 'I think' from memory that the answer was having the UI open whilst logged in as the same user as the service is running under. If you are running the UI and the service as different users then you get problems, one of which is learning remote codes

I see. I'll have to take a good look, but I think that sagetv (on WHS for me) service is run as the default user set during install. I use the administrator account to do things like IR and tuning on the sagetv server....

I am unfamiliar with how WHS handles this I'm afraid. Another option, that I used until I solved the problem, is to ask if anyone else is using a USBUIRT with the same cable box and could provide you with a copy of the codes?
