Screen Resolution

I am running sagetv beta 7, I have windows 7 configured to 1080p, if I turn off my TV and then turn it back on Sage TV only shows the top left hand 1/4 of the screen the rest of the screen in windows 7. If I exit and restart sagetv everything retunes to normal until I turn off the TV again, any thoughts??

Thanks,

Mark

This appears to be a Windows 7 issue as I have this same problem with my HTPC which runs Win7 MC rather than Sage. I haven't tried this but check out post 3 of this thread on TGB http://thegreenbutton.com/forums/p/82332/428270.aspx. You also might want to try the latest video drives from Nvidia or ATI/AMD.

This seems to happen on all fullscreen apps as I have seen threads describing this problem on Win MC forums, Media Portal and Sage. One other thing to try could be to exit your fullscreen app (ie. Sage) when you qre shutting down your TV. If you use something like a Harmony app then this is fairly easy to program.

I was about to post on this as well but I use vista and I am seeing the same behavior, so it is not a w7 only issue. It also only seems to happen with sage any other application does not show this issue.

I did not notice this issue with the previous server based on an atom 330. The new server based on an i5 has been doing this from day one. I have updated drivers and all but it was a driver issue it is very odd that only sage suffers from this. Maybe this helps reduce the pain but use the windows key and go to desktop, then click on the sage window and that should get sage back to full screen most of the time but is a pita for the kids and wife.

Thanks for the suggestion on the logi app something I was considering earlier today. I use an usbuirt, eventghost and a harmony one to control my setup see my sig. I looked at the available commands in eg and sage itself but it was not entirely clear to me which one I should use to minimize sage upon exit and maximize upon turning it on. Any info on this will be greatly appreciated.

Do you run any other apps in fullscreen mode? From what I have read this is one of the common threads in the problem.

Do you mean at the same time as Sage? Only thing possibly running is Firefox.

I mean do you run any other applications that take up the entire screen so that you don't even notice that you are in windows - for example there is no task bar along the bottom. Generally these types of applications are games or media applications like Sage,, Win MC, WinDVD, etc.

Yes, say XBMC (which I installed to see what the fuzz is all about), Firefox which most of the time is left at full screen, MPCH, all of which I have left in full screen mode at various times and which do not show the same issue as Sage has.

As a test this morning i used the windows key and then show desktop while Sage was running full screen. After a few hours i turned the tv and clicked on the minimized Sage and it open full screen without issues so this only happens when Sage is the program with focus when the tv is turned on.

I guess the east solution is to get the Harmony One to sleep sage as the tv is turned off and the awake it as it is turned on. Any pointers as to how to accomplish this using a Harmony One, Eventghost and an USBUIRT?

Thanks.

I think you are misunderstanding. Firefox does not run full screen - you still see the Windows taskbar at the bottom of the screen.

I think you would need to run something like a video game or another video player application that can be run full screen, so that you do not see any of the Windows desktop, taskbar, etc. to perform a valid test.

Correct, but wouldn't MPCH running full screen and XMBC running full screen fit into the test worthy category? If so, neither of those exhibit the behavior I see with Sage.

I played around with EG and this is where I got so far.

I mapped the Harmony's off button to Sage Power Off in EH. That seems to work fine after I set the screensaver on sleep to false in the Sage properties file. If left at true then the SC fires off when Sage goes to sleep and I am not better off because when I turn the TV off I am back to the reduced Sage. In this way Sage goes to sleep when all the other components including the tv go off.

I mapped the last IR code that fires when the Harmony button (touch screen) for the Sage activity is pressed to the Sage Power On in EG. Unfortunately even using the last ir code in the sequence is not late enough as the tv has not switched resolutions and thus Sage is back out of sleep and in full screen by the time the tv kicks in and I end up with a reduced Sage. If I could somehow introduce a delay between the time that EG gets the Sage Power On and actually sends it to Sage then I should be ok. I need to read a bit on EG to see how to accomplish that. I could look into the sequence of the Sage activity and move Tv on to the top if not already there but I do not think that will bee long enough without introducing some sort of delay.

For the time being I think that I will create a touch screen button on the first Sage screen on the Harmony to let the user get Sage out of sleep manually after the tv kicks in. This seems to work and only requires the user to click on Sage using the mouse so to bring focus to it. Meanwhile, the taskbar shows at the bottom.

Unless someone has any tips as to how to accomplish this in a more elegant manner?

Actually this works. Pressing the touch screen button to wake sage places sage in full screen and gives focus to it without having to click the mouse. Not auto on but one button more is not going to bother anyone and no more shrunk Sage!

Here is what my screen looks like when I am having the issue.... I have tried the free app that will LOCK in your current EDID outputs, but is does not work. Is this a sagetv issue or is it windows 7. I never had this problem with sagetv 6.5.

Thanks

Mark
