malore menus: using the Options command for xml/commercial detect options

I'm curious how many malore menu users use the Options command to access the xml and commercial detection options in the resulting pop-up dialog.

The reason I'm asking is that the v7 UI uses a slide-out options menu after using the Options command, so at the minimum, access to those commands would not be in the same manner as it is now. I'm trying to figure out how I want to handle those options from the existing dialog. I don't use those options, but I don't know whether anyone else still does.

The choices for Set/Clear All Watched/Don't Like and Delete All are in the existing standard group options dialog, so they already have an alternate access method.

I don't think I've ever used either of those options.

I'm not sure I know what you mean -- you do or do not use the malore options menu's items for the xml and/or commercial detect options?

I think the commercial detect options to start the detect process are obsolete & better customization choices are available for that, so I guess my main question concerns the xml buttons... and most people replying so far don't use them.

Do not use either. Is it a space limitation which is causing you problems?
BTW - great to hear you're working on this!

I don't use them - there are other ways to export metadata, and I gave up on comskip long ago.

I just found this thread. I've been trying to get the XML creation function in the v7 UI, and can't find it anywhere. When I look inside the .xml file, code seems to be there, but I can't find any way to enable it. This is a function I've used frequently in the v3 UI (I use it to back metadata for my recordings, and then open the relevant file when I need to restore the metadata, using the Web UI to edit the info). Did this function ever get hooked in to V7? I really miss it, and having to swap between v3 and v7 UIs just for this function is a pain. If this function is no longer supported, what are some other ways to export metadata? I tried BMT but it wasn't working well for me.

The code is still in the STV "for future reference", but it is essentially disabled due to lack of interest back in 2010.

Can't you export data from the web UI? And you can always create .properties files which contain all of the metadata. My system creates .properties files but I am not sure where you turn on that functionality.

While the Web UI has an xml import feature, it has always returned parsing errors when I've tried to use it; I haven't seen an export feature (I've looked). Yes, at one point some plugin I installed brought Phoenix along for the ride, and I think that was creating . properties files, but (1) they mostly had no useful info (often just one line with an id number) and (2) they were created for everything, not just specific shows on request, so I found a setting to turn them off. I was moving thousands of them into a .zip file before deleting -just in case they were needed for something. I could sure use a way to re-enable the .xml creation or something that allows me to create truly useful exports of either everything, every episode of a selected show or shows, or selected individual episodes. I have seen various metadata tools out there, but not much documentation of what they can do and how to make them do it.

In many of the screens there is an orange XML button. If you bring up the detailed information screen for an airing it is to the right of the Title that says "SageTV Detailed Information". Is this what you are looking for?

There may also be other ways to get the info that you want, like using the Sage or SageX API and dumping the info to a JSON file.

Here is the XML info for my most recent recording:
Code:

Phoenix doesn't actually create .properties files, this is something Sage does itself, whenever metadata is changed on a recording after it has been recorded, and the properties file only contains the information that was changed. The reason for this is that Sage will write the metadata for a recording into the actual file when it is recorded. This is used when reimporting a file, if for some reason it is not in the database it is being imported to. If there is a .properties file, it will then parse that file and make any changes in the database. After you installed phoenix, there was more information being added to the recording by phoenix's lookups, so it caused sage to create the .properties files to reflect those changes, so that if you have the recording, and the .properties file, you can drop it onto a fresh sagetv install, and it will have the bulk of it's metadata intact.
