SageTV Server Connection Error
When setting up my Hauppauge 2250, I got the following message after entering my zipcode for the EPG:
"There was an error connecting to the SageTV server. Please be sure your internet connection is established and that you have entered the correct zip/postal code." Internet connection is OK. I tried two valid San Francisco zip codes: 94131 and 94110. Tried again after 4 hours. Finally had to give up and select "No EPG". The 2250 installed fine and gets all the QAM stations on the Comcast system. However, no EPG, which is a major limitation. Here's my system info: SageTV 7.0.11.232 Win7 64 bit OS Any suggestions appreciated. TIA |

Do you have firewall software running (Windows Firewall or other 3rd party firewall like ZoneAlarm)? If so, you may need to open some ports to allow SageTV to work correctly. Check this post:

Robogeek,
Thanks for the useful suggestion. However, the Win7 Firewall is set to allow SageTV, SageTV.exe,SageTVClient.exe, and SageTVService.exe to communicate through the firewall so that doesn't seem to be the problem. Adding to the mystery is the fact that I got the EPG for the San Francisco OTA stations without problems when I first set up the 2250. Now that I have reinstalled the 2250 to receive QAM I'm getting the error message. Regards. |

OK. I figured it out. Port 7760 was indeed blocked but it wasn't the Win7 firewall that was doing it. My Motorola SBG900 cable modem has its own firewall. I had to open 7760 through the modem firewall, then it connected OK. Hope this may help someone else.
