Windows Experts - Location in registry for Desktop working area?

Does anyone know where in the registry that the "desktop working area" is stored? This is the area minus the taskbar that maximized windows are sized to. I wrote a simple C# program for Windows 7 that sets this area with SystemParametersInfo() call which sets the area correctly but I lose it everytime I logout or the UAC dialog is shown (even with the correct parameter that is supposed to cause it to be saved).

Question

Hello,

That's an old thread, but I've got the same problem now. I actually have much bigger, as I've found a bunch of other things that "reset" the working area - like entering full-screen mode in IrfanView (a picture-viewer). Even worse - if you have docked programs other than the Windows Taskbar and you change the screen resolution, again the working area is reset. Oh, and when a Remote Desktop Connection is established too.

@cncb - I saw your thread in the MSDN forums too, but there wasn't any answer there either. Have you had any luck finding a solution? I hope you see this thread. Otherwise, I will have to spam one of the other one's that you're active in.

Unfortunately, I never found a solution to this so I just gave up. I was trying to reserve space for my desktop gadgets so that maximized windows would not cover them up (since some genius at Microsoft thought they would take away the Vista sidebar functionality in Win7 ). Now I just keep Windows at a smaller size instead of maximized although this is far from ideal.

You could use AutoIt or PowerShell something along those lines to write a script to position windows where you like them without hacking the registry or replacing system files.

Thanks for the answers. I am using C# and in the .NET framework they have some events for when the working area changes, so this is how I currently fix the problem. However this brings other issues which have no workarounds. I think it is best just to make the damn thing work. Well, this isn't the first time Windows has bugs (or features?), so...

AutoIt won't help here, as I want windows, when maximized, to take all of the work area (as I remove the Taskbar and create my own bars, so the working area is different than the "normal" one).

I'll try posting an answer in MSDN too, hopefully someone from Microsoft sees it.
