Idea for future of sagetv

Was just think about the possibility of sagetv having their own online video channel. It would be really helpful and cool if integrated into the main online menu options so we had a link for sagetv online. There could be an online channel that just simply had a few pages of text about sagetv. Such as latest version info and current announcements and all that sort of stuff etc..

I love sagetv and the ability to harness online media directly on my TV is fantastic.

So come on sagetv when are you launching an online video channel? it wouldn’t cost the earth for just a few pages of text or a short video about sagetv even if it was just for test purposes it would be really helpful for us guys to easily check our online video capabilities are functioning correctly.

Anyone else for this?

If you've already GOT sagetv to view the sagetv channel.. why do you need to be told about sagetv?

Well even if it was just for test purposes.

Currently I am using the latest beta and most of the utube google stuff doesnt work.

Now is this a problem with the beta or has utube changed somthing there end?

At least If sage hosted their own video data stream, we could easily know that everything was ok for online video capabilites if their video worked.

At the moment it seems we are at the mercy of 3rd party video data streams and how they operate.

A sagetv video data stream made by sagetv for sagetv would be a constant. And a good base for diagnostics.

I personaly would like this set up for future betas

The STV online video channel could serve as an "API" for those fickle 3rd party online providers now. We go to the STV channel and see a list of videos. When we click on a video, their server just sends us the location of the online video hosted at YouTube et al. If YouTube changes the format of their pages, then all that needs to change for us to restore viewing is for the STV channel update on set of software (theirs), and then continue to serve up to its loyal viewer the new video location.

Right now, YouTube videos aren't working, see the thread here:

http://forums.sagetv.com/forums/showthread.php?t=49794

My suggestion would make this problem less difficult to address in the future. In addition, STV could have functionality to allow us to rate videos on the STV channel. I'd be more interested in watching highly rated videos based on STV users opinion than the (probably) less educated mass market. Sorry for being a snob, but there it is.
