USB capture devices with hardware encoders

Hi Guys,

I am running SageTV V7 in a Virtual Machine and need either a USB or ethernet S-Video capture device.

Does anyone have any suggestions on something that is robust enough for 24x7 use ? I am told that I should be looking for something with a hardware encoder onboard but if people have had good experience with software then also keen to hear about that.

I have looked at the HD-PVR but its $400 in Australia and I am hoping to spend a little less money.

Thanks

I know at one point the Hauppauge PVR-USB2 (the 2 is important) was popular.

Those are the only two I know of that are guaranteed to work with Sage (HDPVR and the PVRUSB2). I have no idea about software encoders. They would probably be okay if you have enough horsepower, but I have only briefly used software encoders, so I can not comment on them.

the current Hauppauge external HVR tuner is the WinTV-HVR-1950
It has hardware encoding and is a single tuner. It is on the Sage approved list

Forgot about the HVR1950. The 850/950 are software encoders so those would not be your best choices....

Thanks, seems like it might be best to go the HD-PVR route.

Does anyone know if the USA model supports PAL - Maybe I can purchase online and get it spent to Australia at half the price.

Thanks
