Java Version and Power State Issues?
What's the officially supported version of Java for the latest iteration of Sage v6?
I ask because lately my Sage server has been exhibiting some odd power saving behavior (see below), and the only updates I've installed are either from Microsoft or involve Java. I have Sage configured to go into power-down mode between recordings. That used to work fine, even with my remote HD200s because I have another server which watches for the HD200 "startup ping" and sends a magic packet to the Sage server to wake it up. Recently, however, the Sage server will go into some kind of "deeper" power saving mode where the magic packet won't wake it up. I have to cycle the power to bring it up, instead. I can tell how "deep" its gone by whether or not the power LED on the server flashes ("shallow") or is constant on ("deep"). If anyone has any other suggestions on how to keep the server from going into "deep" power saving I'm all ears. |

I don't see how anything related to Java could affect the power savings. I'd be looking elsewhere. What version of windows are you running?

Windows 7 Ultimate 32 bit. And yes, I know that's not a supported configuration for Sage v6. But the power saving stuff was working fine for months under the same configuration, and only recently went wonky.

win7 has got a lot of power configuration options. the commandline tool POWERCFG is very powerful at determining what power states your system is capable/configured to enter. It also lists what devices are capable/configured to wake up from the various sleep states. It sounds like your system is successfully entering S3 sleep state, but the wake-on-lan is not bringing it back. Previously, you may have had a driver or something that was incompatible with S3, meaning you were only going to S2. Windows up date might have 'fixed' your S3 sleep problem for you, thus causing an S3 wake issue.
