Multiple USB-UIRT's

Is anyone using more that one USB-UIRT's to control more than 3 STB's?

I made the move to win7 64 bit awhile back giving up my FireWire channel changing for using more ram... I was also trying to future proof myself in case the cable co started turning off the firewire ports etc...

I am now trying to use 4 HDPVRs and have a second USB-UIRT available so if anyone can offer any guidance it would be much appreciated. I sort of recall something about using a second dll (from the USB-UIRT author/maker) for the second unit... But that was a long time ago.

Thanks for any tips or info.

Jeremy

Can you change the IR codes on any of the STBs? Sometimes they will have a set of 5 or 10 different codes that you can choose from. That way you could have each box set to a different code and control all 4 from the same USB-UIRT.

If not, then another option might be to try and use the Hauppauge Blaster to control 1 of the STBs and let the USB-UIRT control the other 3 using the 3 different zones. I know some people bad mouth the Hauppauge Blaster, but it is all I have ever used and I've had very good results. Personally I think the blaster was wrongly blamed for a lot of the instability in the early days of people using the HD-PVR and it is a perception that has continued to this day.

Check out my signature for a "How To" thread on how I got the Hauppauge Blaster working reliably in my setup.

PS - Since you already have the 2nd USB-UIRT available, you probably can integrate that into the system. I haven't needed to try it, so I am fuzzy on exactly how that would work. But I do know that more than one USB-UIRT can be used on a computer, and I believe Sage supports multiple units.

Look here in the FAQ. I think this is what you wanted anyway.

Yep, that's the info you need. You'll have to shoot Jon an email for the updated .dll that supports the DeviceNumber, and the uurename utility, but it does work just fine.

Thanks for the info guys, Jon sent me the files and I have 4 HD-PVR's up and running. I guess the next week of fall premieres will put it all to the test

Here are the instructions from Jon and the files are attached (I asked for his permission to post)

Edit the .IR files which will be controlling via the second USB-UIRT and add a line right after the first line in the file which reads:

DeviceNumber 2

Rename your second USB-UIRT to #2 by using the UURENAME utility. I ran this as administrator in Win7 64bit and also had to restart for the name changes to take effect.

Cheers,

Jeremy

Just a note.. You shouldn't have to restart to get the renamed USB-UIRT recognized. You should be able to simple unplug and replug it, and windows will recognize it as a different device, and reinstall the drivers.

Thanks Fuzzy, the program window closed so quick I thought it said "restart" but it actually said "reconnect" to take effect.

Cheers,

Jeremy
