Netflix Canada

Thankfully, Netflix has finally made it's way to Canada and so I'm wondering which is the best way to incorporate that into SageTV.

I see references to PlayON, which ultimately requires an additional subscription so I'm wondering if that is the only way, or if there are other work arounds that might work?

If the answer is already out there and someone can point me to it, even better.

Thanks

AFAIK PlayOn is the only way to integrate Netflix into SageTV currently. Unfortunately PlayOn does not yet support Netflix in Canada so for now there is still no way for Canadians to access Netflix from within SageTV.

I have been told by PlayOn that they will look into adding netflix.ca support in a future release. Who know when that will be though.

I signed up for the Netflix free trial the other day to see what the hullabaloo is about. Yuck, terrible content. I find it hard to believe they stay in business with what I saw. Mayeb the US content is better? It literally took me 15 minutes to browse through their entire library. Anything good I searched for would come up "Not Available". E.g.: they list entire season volumes for Seinfeld, but they all say not available. Again, maybe we get a watered down selection in Canada?

Yes. Though I would expect the offerings for Canadians to increase as time goes on.

Exactly. Everyone complaining about Netflix.ca's initial offerings needs to be reminded that when Netflix was first introduced in the US, it's catalog is no where near what it is now.

$8 a month for unlimited movie streaming can't be beat, no matter how you look at it.

The licensing issues are going to be difficult in Canada. There are already companies that own the broadcast/streaming rights to a lot of the TV content, where in the US the companies that own the content still own the rights. It will take time for the content to appear.
