"no mapping between account names and security ids was done"

I know I will get flamed for this, but I have yet to find an answer. I am trying to use SageTV in service mode. I am hoping this will improve the reliability of the program.

I record to a network drive and so I understand to use SageTVservice I need to change from "localsystem" to something else (haven't got past this to find out what the alternative is). I keep getting the message about account names and security ids. Despite searching this forum and also the Microsoft site and just a general google search, I can't figure out where and what settings on my computer I am supposed to change to get this to work.

Any help would be appreciated.

Use the SageTVServiceControl app that is in your start menu. From there, you can change the user the service logs in as. (It has to be a user on the computer, with network access). The user name has to include the domain, though using ./UserName should work ("." gets translated to the local system).

Thanks for your reply. I have substituted the ".\user name" with "WORKGROUP\user name" and I get the warning the user name is not recognized. What am I doing wrong?

Thanks!

Are you sure the username is correct, and is a user on the system? What happens if you log in as that username?

If a system is not a domain member, which seems to be the case here, then you need to specify the local computer name and the user name (e.g. John-PC\John, where John-PC is the machine name and John the user name). The name of the workgroup should not be specified.

Currect, though as I had mentioned, you can use .\UserName for local machine accounts as well. In fact, I'm pretty sure when you choose to set up the service using SageTVServiceControl.exe, it will already be filled in with the currently logged in user.

When there is no domain you cannot specified another PC\username. You must make sure all the PCs are in the same workgroup and that the same ID and password exists on each PC that you want to be able to access the resources on the network. If you are on a Windows 7 network make sure the network is designated Home or Private and that network discovery is turned on. It is off by default.

I appreciate the advice.

I am connecting to an NAS device, not another PC on the network.

Just to clarify, do I have to setup the same user on each device on the network?

I am able to access to each device through SageTV server PC, including mapping network drives. The issue has been strictly now that I am trying to enable and utilize SageTVserver.

Thanks!

Depending on the NAS device you may need to enable user security on it. As a rule I always have the same user ID and password on each PC that needs access to a network resource shared out on another PC on the network. Doing this I have zero issues for any PC to access the resource. You'll also find it it is preferable to use UNC naming as opposed to mapping a drive in Sage.

Thanks for your reply. I will try this when I get home. I have 2 NAS devices and 4 PC's on the network. So they all need to have the same user name/password?

That is what I have done. On the NAS device I had before I had to enable user security on it. All of my PCs log into the network with the same ID that I have on the SageTV server.
