Now Placeshifter hangs and crashes

I'd used Placeshifter fine since I got my Studio 1555 but now it starts sluggish and freezes in 5 seconds then restarts for a second, then crashes. Now running Placeshifter 6.6.1.217. Went back to much older version but it did exactly the same thing.

After 2 or 3 tries to restart, I get the Placeshifter is Connecting... screen for 10 sec or so, then goes back to manager starting window or crashes entirely.

I recall installing a new email client (Novell Groupwise) but unstalling made no difference. May have installed other apps but not sure.

I have
1. uninstalled all old Javas and updated to latest.
2. restarted client and server machines
3. Placeshifter 6.5.9.204 works super and fast from another computer -- Eee PC netbook with Java 6 update 13 on same network!! (and same default Placeshifter settings)
4. Turning off Video post processing in Settings makes no difference.

Any suggestions as to what to check or do next would be appreciated.
