Support: Mobile Web Interface V2 iOS Streaming

Version 2 of the Mobile Web Interface plugin adds support for watching SageTV recordings on iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch. The Mobile Web Interface V2 thread is available for discussion and support of the plugin. Please use this thread for anything concerning the video streaming.

Reporting Issues
**Please check the iOS Streaming FAQ thread before reporting an issue.**

If the streaming appears to stall, try giving it a couple of minutes to start streaming.

If that doesn't work or if you're having a different problem please do the following:
  1. Enable SageTV's debug logging to ensure a log file is being created
  2. Increase Jetty's logging level to verbose.
    1. Go to the plugin manager (Setup -> SageTV Plugins -> Installed Plugins)
    2. Select the Jetty Web Server plugin
    3. In the dialog that appears, select Configure Plugin
    4. Find the Log Level property and change it to VERBOSE
    5. Select the Restart Web Server option to restart Jetty
  3. Restart SageTV to clear the log
  4. Reproduce the issue on your mobile device
  5. Stop SageTV
  6. This will generate a SageTV log file (sagetv_0.txt).
  7. Go to the jetty/logs folder and find the Jetty request log file that corresponds to the same time. There's a new one for each day. Remove any server information that you don't want posted.
  8. Zip the SageTV log and Jetty request log and post them in this thread and provide the following information:
    • Description of the problem
    • CPU
    • SageTV server operating system
    • Wireless Connection (WiFi G/N or 3G)
    • Type of device (iPhone, iPod touch, iPad)
    • iOS Version

So could a user type the appropriate address on his ipod to start streaming a show (like say the airing's ID or filename), then switch safari to the streaming url?

EDIT: Or how would one interact directly with the media streaming plugin from another plugin?

Working fairly well. My server cannot keep up on HD-PVR recordings, lots of buffering. But that is to be expected. This is definitely going to cost me more money.

even over AT&T 3G i can stream a bit...but seems as if HDPVR recordings might be a bit lagged...what is the time period of the buffer, and can that be increased for HDPVR recordings/3G use?? just a question, not familiar with the intricacies of this..
am I going to have to go core I7 now?? now i have to go back on newegg to buy more stuff...oh well...maybe an early christmas present to myself.....

Experince this morning

I tried to stream this morning at the gym. I was trying to watch a 720p MKV file on my iPhone 4. I would get buffering every 2-3 minutes. My server is a AMD Athlon II X4 620, I'm guessing it was network that was the issue not the trancoding? How would I trouble shoot this, I normally stream netflix at the gym all the time with no issues.

Thanks for the awesome app!

FYI

"Some videos will play for 10 or 20 seconds, then pause to redownload the segments and play them again at a different bitrate. It's something to do with HD-PVR recordings and/or iOS 4. It's still under investigation."

FYI I saw this behavior this morning and I was watching a downloaded 720p MKV file over 3G.

Alton, all testing was done with actual recordings from tuners - not downloaded files so that isn't surprising. This is one reason the focus started with recordings only and not video/movies.

no link to view show

I have updated the plug in properly as I am seeing the new interface, but I don't have the link to view the show as shown in my screenshot attachment. Any ideas?

Are you viewing on an iPad, iPod Touch, or iPhone? If no, you wont' see the video window since no other devices are supported on the mobile web interface as of yet.

What browsers are supported?
Safari Mobile for iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch with iOS version 3.0 or later
Desktop Safari version 5.0 or later is NOT supported. It supports the HTTP Live Streaming protocol but is not yet working with this plugin.

Probably won't have the HTTP Live streaming implemented on anything but iOS Safari...

In that case we'll have to wait for Jason to help. Have you tried other shows - drilling all the way down to the episode level?

Have you watched the video on Brent's blog? It's like 4 levels passed the first screen, so I couldn't find it either without watching the video...
