Question about Video Library...
Boy, did I goof up...
I put on the MlbDude stv and was all excited about setting up folders for my recorded shows. SageTV dumps the recorded shows into d:\SageTV by default. I created a folder structure under d:\SageTV called Library. Under that I created a structure such as \Drama\CSI and \Comedy\Frasier. I then moved the recorded shows into the proper folders within the structure not realizing that I would lose all of the Sage recording info associated with that file. Now, I can only see the shows listed under Library import with no additional info. When I moved one of the files back into d:\SageTV, thinking it would relink the recording info stored in wiz.bin, it did not. I closed SageTV and restarted it and it erased that show. Why?

Sage lost track of the show and assumed you deleted it from your HD. It removed it from its database. When Sage sees a file in the video directory it does not recognize it will move it to the errant directory first (check there). Then when space is needed it will delete it.
The Video Library points to and uses different paths and files than the normal Sage recorded files. |

Where is the errant dir located?

If you have a video directory of M:\ it would be M:\errant. If you have multiple video directories you may have one under each.

Isn't this controlled by a property? The list of properties shows it as "use_errant_dir=", where you can set it to true or false. But, my properties file shows "seeker/use_errant_dir=false", a slightly different wording. Does it default to false, is that just because it had been set to false all through the beta?
Hmm... now I notice this thread is about MlbDude.stv... so: is it set differently between this stv & the default one from Frey? mlbdude: Can you clarify all this? - Andy |

For me the errant flag was always set to true. Hopefully it defaults to that. I don't remember ever changing it.
The properties documentation is just a little wrong I guess. |

I never knew it existed until recently... so mine must have defaulted to false at some point. At least I know to change it to true now.

Mine was on false as well and I hadn't ever changed it. Was in there probably from 1.4.10

Unfortunantly, mine was/is set to false and therefore I did not/do not have an errant directory.
So I guess the file that SageTV erased is gone forever... So much for last night's CSI...

It may not be recoverable by Windows so that you can undelete it, but what about the software mentioned in this thread?

I downloaded the software and tried to recover the file.
It was no where to be found which was strange due to the fact that I have not recorded anything else since the file was erased. It was also strange because it could have recovered a video I manually erased almost a week ago... Alas, no CSI... MlbDude, I assume that you lose all of the additional info on your recordings when you organize them into the dir structure supported by your stv? I also notice you are an anime fan... check out my profile and our website... Saul

Yes my STV is for offline files (DivX and stuff) and not really for SageTV recordings.
Yes I am a huge anime fan. It is even worse that my wife is too so we have tons of it. That is awesome, I own quite a bit of ADV DVD's .

What was the motivation for all this mess Boomstick? I was working on a Sage Recordings screen at one point that looked similar to my Video Library (but only one level deep).
For each folder I would attempt to load an image from a central place that matched the title of the show. If it was found I would display it. Is that something you were looking for? |

It is just that I am obsessive compulsive...
"Everything in its place and a place for everything..." When SageTV dumps all recordings into one dir, I would like to move them into a structured directory set so that I can watch them down the road. Sure, I can do that but losing all of the recording info is a bummer, especially when it may be weeks before I pull that show up to watch. I have heard some rumblings that Sage may support a true dir structure in the future.
