Problems with Hauppauge WINTV 950Q

I just purchased a WINTV-HVR-950Q over the Christmas holidays. I am having a problem with my SAGEtv vers 6.6.2.218 program not recording.
My source is cable tv. with a mix of analog channels and open QAM. All channels are tunable. I installed the driver only option for the WINTV 950Q as I use SAGETV.
Acer e machine ET1352G-03W (new PC DEC - 2010)
AMD Athlon II X2 260u processor 1.8GHz, 2MB Total Cache
4GB DDR3 system memory
NVIDIA GeForce 6150 SE integrated graphics

I am getting the following error message on SAGETV

Error - Halt detected in recording
The device input "WINTV-HVR-950 capture digital tv tuner" stopped producing data while recording on physical channel 40. SAGETV will try to reset the device. (12 attempts)

Any help much appreciated.

I'll take a couple of shots at it, based on that occurrence with my HD-PVR and my ownership of a 950Q which has worked well for me.

1. Try a different USB controller on your MB. For instance, I have an Asus board with multiple USB controllers. One "set" can handle devices like this just fine; the other "set" crashes the system. I think it was mostly designed for people who were plugging in low-bit-rate and/or seldom used things like iPods, USB printers, cameras, etc.

2. Try a PCI or preferrably a PCI-Express x1 USB card. NEC-based chipsets work well. I cut a good deal of my problems out with my USB-based tuners/encoders by doing this. Some MB's allocate part of the PCI bus to USB ports, rather than an x1 lane, and you MIGHT get saturation and/or interrupt issues, especially if your NIC is also using PCI bus bandwidth.

3. If you know your NIC and USB controller use PCI bandwidth, and not an x1 lane, I'd be concerned. I would check your MB manual, as it should tell you what is controlling your USB controllers, and what bus they are on.

4. Check your encoder under your "sound, video, and game controllers" device manager for any yellow alerts, and check your "universal serial bus controllers" under device manager as well. Make sure it is not showing up in either as an "unknown device".

5. Check BIOS to make sure your USB is set to 2.0 speeds.

6. I assume you are not connecting an external hub to the PC's USB port. That might cause problems.

Just some thoughts. You may have tried all of these already.

Thanks for the quick response. When I come back in this evening I will try your items.
I have used Sagetv for 4 years with a convertx tv402u with no problems but there doesn't seem to be any more support for these and no digital.
Thanks
