Any good HD video editor?

I have some HD recordings captured via satellite. I want to cut out publicity (among others so I can use local language srt file with it), but can't find a decent video editor to do so.

I basically want to be able to view in the editor the video, identify the parts I want to be joined in one movie, and then have the editor not re-encode but just copy/stream those partd and join them (M2-edit Pro does that perfectly for mpg2 files).

Which is a good editor? I'm not looking just for freeware, quality has its price .

I"m testing AVS Video Editor, but don't seem to get this done without loss of quality (maybe I just haven't found the right setting yet).

Enclosed a txt with MediaInfo on a typical video.

Thanks in advance for any advice.

Jan

For MPEG2, most people here swear by VideoRedo Plus ($50), it cuts out the parts you don't want, and it outputs the edited file without re-encoding, so its super fast and no quality loss.

For x264, there's Video Redo TV Suite. TMPGEnc Video Mastering Works 5 is another good option.

I tried about a dozen different video editors several years ago and found VideoReDo was the best. Later VideoReDo came out with the VideoReDo Suite that can edit both meg2, h.264 formats, and has built-in DVD burning software. I upgraded to VideoReDo Suite, and it was a good choice for me. VideoReDo suite is a bit more expensive, but it is worth the cost to be able to edit h.264 files.

Most video editing software is below $100. There are some really expensive video editing software packages in the $1,000 - $2,000 range. I tried an expensive video editor demo once, but the learning curve is really steep. It would probably take months to figure out how to use that software. I'm sure it has a lot of extra features that you won't need if you just need to do basic cutting and joining segments. VideoReDo also has a feature called "Quickstream Fix" which cleans up video files. Some people run quick stream fix to clean up all their video files. It is possible to run quick stream fix from a command line. So you could then use SQJ to process all your files through "Quickstream Fix" automatically.

Before you use the trial, you could take an image of your computer. Then you can recover back to the image, which will completely uninstall the trial software.

I agree with the others about VRD. It's very nice. At the same time, if you're interested in free tools to do about the same I'd check out avidemux.

Thanks

Thanks for the feedback, I now know what to do this weekend. 100$ is reasonable if it's a good product. Most importantly, it should ensure that the 'cleaned' video/audio keeps its quality (that I still haven't been able to do with AVS). After that, ease of use is key.

Regards,

Jan
