EPG server problems?

My EPG data mysteriously goes empty starting at 8pm tonight until 8pm tomorrow night. Some entries exist in this time frame, but very few. Most channels are basically empty. I forced an EPG update just before posting this message. The screenshot is take after the update completed - no change.

So are there any issues with the EPG server? I'm using the Shaw Direct (East/Standard) lineup.

If you've been reverting wiz.bin or perhaps from other causes, the EPG data in the database may have gotten out of sync with what SageTV thinks as already been downloaded; see this FAQ for properties to try resetting.

Ok, that fixed me up. Thanks. So now I have another question... doesn't an EPG update always refresh "today's" data? I set my EPG updates to run at around 18:45 local time each day, assuming that I'd always get the latest EPG data for the evening's prime time schedule. But based on this, it doesn't seem that an EPG update will always refresh "today" on every run? What data is refreshed on a typical EPG update?

I the same thing briefly on Shaw Cable (Shaw coincidence???) and posted in the EPG forum. Large periods were showing with no data like in your screenshot. I also tried forcing an update by using the tips in the FAQ Opus linked to but didnt help and also tried to remove and re setup all my tuners but without luck. The weird part was that sometime over night it on the next scheduled update all the no data entries were gone. Not a lot if help I know but at least your not alone

Yes and no. If the EPG data has changed since the last update, then it will get updated; if it hasn't changed, then the airing info won't be download again.

When you do an EPG update, you will receive all the new and changed information since your last EPG update. That includes new listings for the next day farthest away for which you can receive EPG data and any changed listings for earlier days.

Every record in the EPG database has a tag which indicates when it was last modified. Upon connecting to the EPG server, your local client (your SageTV system) gets the timestamp of when the EPG server last updated itself. Then the NEXT time it does an update it puts that timestamp in the request and only things modified after that time get sent. The first EPG update done sends everything, since there's no timestamp established yet on the client.

Thus, any changes to today's listings will get received w/o having to redownload all listings every day.
