Socket 775 MB w/ 4 pci-e slots?
Currently I have a Asus MB with 3 PCI-e slots and on board video. I am using 2 slots for 2 Colossus and 1 for HVR-2250. I find I want to get rid of the 2250 and just goto 4 Colossus cards. I really don't see a need to upgrade my CPU or memory. And the server is run headless.
So can anyone give me a make and model of a socket 775 MB that has 4 PCI-e slots and will support Q6600 cpu and DDR2 ram? Any help greatly appreciated.

With a LGA 775 that not possable due to north bridge/south bridge chipset the max if I call rigth was only 3 there for your only option is new Motherboard / CPU and Memory
Option are GIGABYTE GA-H67M-D2-B3 LGA 1155 $100, Intel Core i3-2100 $125 GIGABYTE GA-H67MA-UD2H-B3 LGA 1155 $130, Intel Core i3-2100 $125 or GIGABYTE GA-880GA-UD3H $103, AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition $90 GIGABYTE GA-890GPA-UD3H $140 AMD Phenom II X2 555 Black Edition $90 I don't recommed the Athlon II X2 model The ones I like is GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3 AM3 $79 the only down to this is need add video card but at lease there cheap $22 You need min of 2GB $20 but it can't hurt to go for 4GB $40. |

Well that sux, I didn't realize that was a chipset limitation in the 775 boards. Oh well, I have been looking for an excuse to goto a 2500k cpu. Can you recommend any good 1155 system boards that will support 4 pci-e 1x cards and preferably have onboard video?

well there is one option, if it has onboard video, you could take the 16x slot and through in a 4x pcie to 3 by PCIE1x expansion card .
However, the card and units are like 600 bucks. an example http://www.mypccase.com/pcslexboxwii.html

StarTech PEX2PCI4 it a round $500 traker1001 I did make some recommend GIGABYTE GA-MA770T-UD3 is one one that give you 4 1x pcie slot but as I said there a downside to it to me that not big deal and better option in long run becuases if need I can swap out the video with a more powerful one as needed that better for video decoding for test the video in server as well. There a some Server Motherboards but cost lot more and some have on board video but very carpee like SUPERMICRO MBD-X9SCM-O Last edited by SHS; 04-06-2011 at 08:14 PM. |

I have an Intel DG43NB as the motherboard in my SageTV server. It has onboard video and including the x16 slot it has a total of 4 PCIe slots. Not sure what your other requirements are. The only real downside to this board is that it only has two RAM slots. Other than that it works great! Onboard FireWire and Intel GigE make an awesome board!

Yea, it's probably been replaced by something newer by now. I bought it early last year.

It's not Socket 775 and it's not available yet. Says "Coming Soon" right under the picture.

If all you need is a headless server you don't need a super duper video card. Integrated video works well enough for that purpose.

It's stupid how most of the motherboards with integrated video are either server boards or mATX. Very few desktop full ATX sized boards with integrated video.

I'm assuming you're saying it's stupid because you need more than four pci-e slots...

I'm not the OP but I suppose that is the crux of the matter. mATX boards have limited realstate which limits the number of slots to 4 where full ATX boards can have up to 7.

Count me among the Supermicro fans. I'm currently using an X7DWE in my server.

You're right, it would be great if more motherboard manufacturers offered atx boards with integrated video. As far as the OP, since he specified that he needed 4 pci-e slots, not 5, 6 or 7, perhaps the matx board mentioned might work for him.
