And you, sir, are absolutely correct. I went back and re-read what I had written and realize that about half of it was just plain nonsense. So much for doing three things at once and trying to send out an "authoritative" response to help someone...

I do stand by my general statements about the STBs, MoCa, and Option 6 router configuration, but my thesis about CableCards and MoCa is indeed a bunch of hoo-hah. I DO believe that you need a working IP route from your CableCard host back to Verizon at least for some part of the activation process, but it's possible that once the initial pairing is done, that route is no longer necessary.

Having said that, I fully concur with The Truth that the low-pass filter is critical for success with Ceton cards and FiOS. I was told by Ceton support that without that filter, data signalling can/will interfere with your TV signal.

ok guys i have an exciting update!

i was on the phone together with a ceton tech and verizon tech (arranged by ceton) and after more than an hour of the verizon tech struggling with their software they got my cablecard activated!

i can now tune channels in windows media center no problem!

however - i cant get it working with sagetv!

i got the tuners recognized and the channel guide setup but when i try tuning to a channel i quickly get the error: Error (-10) No encoders can tune the selected channel

weird... what are they encoded in? sounds like i need to install some software? but what?

P.S. Ceton tech support is outstanding!

What version of SageDCT are you running? What parameters did you use to configure it?

I have ver 2.1.4 of sagedtc

i tried using the program to send a test message (VERSION) but it comes back with the error No connection could be made because the target machine actively refused it 127.0.0.1:6980

some things to note:

1. i did have to replace my tuner after it was determined the one i originally bought was not functional (RMA'd to Ceton)

1a. I wasnt sure what to do in SageDTC to get it to work with the tuner, I simply scanned again, checked on overwrite assignments. hit save to save the new properties. then I stopped/started the service.

2. I tried disabling windows firewall to rule it out. no difference

-------------[EDIT]--------------------

Sometimes you just need to reboot....

I rebooted and tried again - the SageDTC program works fine

I send a START command, and then a STOP command and checked the resulting .ts file - looks fine!

I'll try SageTV again

OK I believe it's finally working now!

I setup my channels for 1 tuner and tested them out - looking good!

Now I enabled a second tuner and am going to test recording 2 shows simultaneously

I never played with multiple tuners before

Only thing I notice so far as difference from R5000 mod is the computer seems more sluggish with the Ceton tuner

----UPDATE-----

How awesome... recording 4 shows at once.... no problems!

KoB, when you were describing issues you had recording multiple shows at once, was it every time you tried or a more random occurrence? Just asking to see if I should hold of celebrations just yet...

I have had Fios and a Cetonfor a few months now and it generally works fine. I know I do not have a low pass filter because I installed everything myself. I do have one very weird issue that I think is unrelated completely, but if I can get a filter easily and cheaply I'd be willing to try. Can't hurt, right? Truth - how and where do I get one? Thanks.

Well thats the Beauty of having Fios come out and install the card, they provide the LPF. it says Low Pass Filter 5 ~ 860Mhz. I've attached a picture.
Sorry maybe you can ask Verizon for one. especially if you see them in the neighborhood they could just give you one.

im not sure if this is the same but sound like it might be....

It's very weird and as far as I can tell it is specific to me. When watching live tv, at the end of a show (when Sage stops recording one show and starts another), Sage jumps back out to the guide instead of just showing the next show. It is still recording the next show, but I have to go select it in the guide and click "Watch." The weird thing is that if I watch the show a little behind "live," say 4 or 5 seconds behind, it will keep on playing and go to the next show. Doing that is fine with me, but not the wife . See, told you it is weird.

Oh, I dont mean tuning channels - it definitely tunes channels faster than R5000

But in general I find situations where its in middle of playing back a show and I hear the computer hard drive cranking away and the video starts to slightly stutter. I have seen several situations like this, like something is going on in the background since I switched to the Ceton.

With the R5000 I never experienced such a situation.

I would look at you task manager and look at the networking tab. look at the LAN connection for the centon card, usually Lan 2. and see if it has activity when a show is not recording. when you have these playback issues. if there is activity, you may need to restart the sagetv service. sometimes the sage can hang up the card and it will not stop recording. restarting the sage server service will correct this issue.

Is it possible your hard drive isnt fast enough to handle 4 tuners at once? plus if you have comskip. that willl make things worse. I have all my tuners spread across 2 raid 0 arrays and i dont have any stuttering issues. Also was comskip running?

Windows Media Center is the only certified program to record copy once programs with the Ceton or the Prime. And I believe you have to watch the recordings with the PC that recorded them.

Yep, WMC is the only thing that can record them. I tested that also and read up on it. I do get moview channel and showtime working so thats fine for me. I use roku for most of my movies now. So far FIOS still has everything else for me. THe big question is eventually they can just flip the flags and force everyone to use their junk DVRs and Slow guides or go back to the STBs and use HDPVRs.

Hopefully that day doesn't come. I love how fast the CETON tunes, no guide info at the beginning, my digital sound is also better.

So I have 2 2250 QAM cards going and a CETON right now on a stable box. Just need another extender.

Hey The Truth, I dealt with a wide range of problems. The first of which was my original tuner seemed to be bad, but I first tried a second CableCARD which also failed and then Ceton RMA'd me a replacement tuner which seemed to work in recognizing the card. But then it was a battle to get the card activated by Verizon. Again Ceton came to the rescue by organizing a conference call with my, a Ceton tech and a Verizon tech where they spent an hour sorting it out (it was all stuff on the Verizon end).
