Correct Way to Get Metadata?

I have my server with ripped movies and blu rays. I currently can only get correct metadata and fanart using SMM along with Diamond. I would like to exclusively use Diamond for viewing movies.

How does Diamond get metadata and fanart and do I need to download any plug ins for it to work?

I am ripping my movies to folders using dvdfab and naming the folder and file the title of the movie but Diamond still does not show coreect metadata.

Do you have BMT installed?

BMT will do most of the work for you (metadata and fanart downloading) as long as you name your movies correctly. I usually check the name against the IMDB and add the year in brackets to make sure I get the correct movie in case of multiple with the same name.

You can opt to use the SMM fanart that you already have as Plucky has added the option to use that if you prefer. Look under Diamond Fanart in Detailed Setup and set the image name style for posters and backgrounds.

OK I went back and copied the movie title from IMDB and renamed the movie folder to it. It seems to be working better now. I still do not see the box art in the folders view for some movies. I have a structure like this Server/Movies/Harry Potter. I do not see the box art until I open all the way to the harry potter folder. Other titles show box art at the Server/Movies but some movies only show DVD.

Once you update the fanart you will need to delete the Diamond Fanart Cache under Advanced Settings/Diamond Fanart and then you will be prompted to automatically recache.

As long as the movie itself has enough info in the title for BMT to scrape the right metadata/fanart the folder structure can be however you want it but in Diamond the Movies will all show as one big group unless you use our folder include/exclude options.

Good luck,

J

Also noticing that if I do not copy and paste the title from IMDB the movie shows it being days long. One example is Flushed Away which is what it is called but the duration showed 5 days. I then copied from IMDB with Flushed Away (2006) and now duration is correct.

I think that is a known issue with Sagetv using the MM created properties files for imported Movies/Videos. I believe someone said that it was fixed in the latest version of MyMovies (4.xx???).

If you are going to go BMT only you might want to remove your import directories and let the rescan complete to remove the movies. Then delete all the MM files using the Collection manager to clean up/delete the files. Then make sure that all you files are named according to the IMDB and then add your import folders back again this time letting BMT scrape the metadata and fanart as they are imported.

Good luck.

Is diamond good enough to manage movie collections? It seemed that MM collection manager did a good job but I like the look and feel of diamond.

For me at least, Diamond and BMT are "good enough" and provide everything I need. I had been running MM and have dropped it. One less service to run and monitor.

Thank you for your help. I went through my collection today and renamed them to the IMBD name. I deleted all mm files and import folders then added the import folders back.

Almost all the movies are showing the correct metadata and fanart. There are some though that do not show up on IMDB and I used to have them working with my movies. Is there an easy way to get the fanart and metadata for movies and shows that diamond does not recognize?
