Is this for real or too many beers on my behalf?

Google's Acquisitionof SageTV
What will this mean for things like comskip and the extenders? If the store is closing then where would we purchase extenders?
I have a very bad feeling about this, but I hope I'm wrong. |

Can we just have some assurance that SageTV will continue as a PVR software we can use? Bit worried that this means shutdown...
Congratulations to Jeff and the team who deserve the success!

I have a lot of faith in Google. In fact, if you read the announcement it all makes a lot of sense. Google is about open technology and Sage has been operated along those lines. This could potentially open up SageTV to many more people.
Congratulations to all at SageTV Wayne

I don't see this as positive but hope I am wrong. Google aquiring it will lose the support we are all use to and love and probably some of the innovation with it as google will suceed to the media companies demands.

As the folks on TWiT are apt to say, prepare for some awesome python scripts to be your support.

Jeff,
WOW.....my wife and I were just talking about the phrase from the Godfather - "Leave the gun, take the cannoli" as we eat some cannolis, sounds like that is the path you are heading down. Congrats! Will new plugin's still be processed and posted?

I am not seeing this as a good thing for the user community. GoogleTV is not up to the caliber of SageTV and I don't expect them to support things such as ripped DVDs. I know this is a very good thing for the Sage team, but I can't see how this is anything but very very bad for us.

This may also mean DRM is coming. I would really hate that.

Although I'd be surprised if Google acquired SageTV to kill it, can't believe its a competitor to anyone it's more an enthusiast's play thing.

I personally see them wanting the PVR backend and nothing more. The store going offline instantly like that I don't see as a good sign....

I don't see this as being a good thing in anyway. I can't see Google wanting SageTV for any other reason apart from the underlying technology (no continued support for the existing consumer software/hardware).
And I guess this means there will be no chance of my (and other peoples) issues with the R5000 ever being fixed since it's such a niche product. |
