Not sure if this means anything, but it looks like Sage added the following JavaScript to its home page on about July 3, 2006:
"http://www.google-analytics.com/urchin.js" Wonder if it has anything to do with the decision?

Thats just google analytics, which lets them track trends, how many people view the site, etc. They could have easily done a different product like omniture, etc. So doesn't have anything to do with the buyout

I never said that's what I think would happen.. just what would be the best situation. It is far more likely google will create a limited sagetv based back-end recording system to feed recorded content to googletv enabled devices... and the rest of sage will be wasted...

I do think sagetv should at least give evneryone who has, say, more than 4800 posts, some sort of bonus from that fat google check... my 'Buy me a beer' link in the sig seems to be working today Jeff.. ;-)

I don't know why there is so much love for hulu. With sage I can watch the show as soon as it is recorded, and skip the commercials. With streaming I have to wait sometimes 2 or 3 weeks for the episode to be posted, and then I am forced to wait through their ads. If Sage goes down the tubes, then I guess I'll end up going to windows media server...there really isn't any other option left.

I imagine this is exactly what will happen. The rest of Sage is superfluous in a GoogleTV/Android environment -- Apps would be expected to fill the gaps.

I think the choice should be based on anyone who joined the forum before or during June 2004......

I haven't received one either, but I'm not sure that I bought my license directly from SageTV. They may have been from either contests I won or from PCAlchemy. So, SageTV would really have no way of knowing I'm a customer, other than my bug reports.

I haven't received an email either.
Last fall before I purchased the upgrade to ver 7 , I wrote and asked them if they would be around for a while or was I going to buy a license and the same problem as with BTV which was abandoning their user base. They wrote back and said this quote " We are not like them and won't do that to our user base".

I'd be very very surprised if they stop selling the sageTV frontends, that would very much alienate a whole lot of folks dedicated to SageTV. I'm actually very excited by this because hopefully we'll see more mainstream adoption of SageTV technology and more options available. Google from what I've seen brings good things to products, so let's just hope this is another one.

Can someone who received the email copy & paste the body of the email here? Thanks! Found it at another web site: The e-mail: Greetings, We're writing to let you know that SageTV has been acquired by Google. Since 2002, we've worked to change the TV viewing experience by building cutting-edge software and technology that allows you to create and control your media center from multiple devices. And as the media landscape continues to evolve, we think it's time our vision of entertainment management grows as well. By teaming up with Google, we believe our ideas will reach an even larger audience of users worldwide on many different products, platforms and services. We've seen how Google's developer efforts are designed to stimulate innovation across the web, and as developers have played a core role in the success of SageTV, we think our shared vision for open technology will help us advance the online entertainment experience. Although we will be shutting down the SageTV store, we will continue to support existing users. We'd also like to continue our dialog with the SageTV community by keeping the forum open for discussion. We really appreciate everyone's support over the years, and we hope you'll stay tuned as we embark on new projects at Google. The SageTV team From the email, it sounds like the store is gone for good...I was really hoping they had a plan to re-open it after getting it re-branded.
