HD300 no longer playing HDPVR recorded content

I have a strange problem that has resurfaced..

Months ago my HD300 stopped playing content recorded from my HDPVR (I just get a black screen and no audio). I logged a ticket with SageTV and they told me to uninstall and reinstall the latest SageTV and run a force reindex. This fixed the problem for a few weeks.

The problem has returned. I tried the quirky fix above to no avail. I can play the content on the server just fine.

I am run SageTV 7.1.9 and the latest beta firmware on the HD300.

Any ideas?

Dave

Pulling my hair out on this one (and there isn't much to start with).

The offending videos like this newer episode of Burn Notice show format of:
MPEG2-PS[MPEG2-Video/3.8Mbps 4:3 480i@29.97fps, MP2/384Kbps@48kHz Stereo]

Yet here is another Burn Notice from last year:
MPEG2-TS[H.264 4:3 480i@29.27fps, Dolby Digital/384Kbps@48kHz Stereo]

Total Media still shows TS format...

try going back to an older hdpvr driver

At your own risk:

When arcsoft updated I experienced the same issue. I had to go back to original CD from Hauppauge after wiping out all arcsoft drivers including registry entries. I'm still having some stability issues with the HDPVR but I think that device is just dying (3+ years old). I now have to reboot it every second day.

I have found only the 1.0.5.3 drivers to be stable with my HDPVRs. There is a modified version floating around AVSForum that will let you use it with some of the newer revision hdpvr's.

I uninstalled and installed the version on the HDPVR disk. It didn't fix the problem.

I also have a HVR-1600 and that stuff plays back fine. The only thing I noticed is that the audio in the stuff that works says Dolby Digital... whereas the stuff that doesn't says MP2... I am going to try converting some videos to see if that helps.

I went searching and didn't find any... Can you point me to where you found them?

Figured it out...

I found that my permissions were wrong... About the time this stopped working I moved my Windows workgroup network to an AD domain. I converted the Sage service to use an AD service account instead of the local administrator. I added this AD service account to the administrator group in AD thinking that would get applied to the Sagetv machine. Wrong!

I should have added the service account to the local administrator group directly on the Sagetv machine or add him to the the Domain Admins group in AD which is a member of the local administrator group on the Sagetv box. I chose to add him to Domain Admins. Once I did that, the funky MP2 audio encoding went away and now reads H.264 as expected.

Windows permissions.... Sheesh!

Guess that's why I'm a UNIX guy!
