Any painless way to migrate all the TV Recordings into MCE?
After much deliberation and with a real pain in my heart that will take long to heal i've decided to bail out and start a "painful and against my will" process to migrate back into the most my hated and limited MCE with much regret
Is there any way to migrate all my TV recordings and maintain the order and series separation by banners into MCE? i know i wont be able to migrate the bin.wiz info about watched episodes and etc., but how can I move all my current tv recordings and be able to view them on MCE as SageTV didn't organize the recording structure into folders?

It takes some restructuring and renaming of older files that don't include season episode info in the name. I would look at tv library,my movies or media browser to display an handle the metadata.

(Thoughts) To all interested users that LOVE Sage TV:
I do not see any reason to Change or even experiment with an application that will not do what sage does! Do You? Maybe I'm incorrect or Naive but I have been using Sage TV Since 2005 Ver. 4 and have seen great improvements and Developments in the Sage TV product. I have tried other product but NONE even come close to comparing to Sage TV Media Center. "THERE IS NO COMPARISON TO Sage TV Period!" Yes I quoted That If I am wrong please fill me in. I would think if you hang in there long enough you will still have one of the best PVR packages built so far. And I believe there will still be developers that are willing to support and maybe go further with what they have already developed for Ver. 7. Google/Sage if offering the FREE upgrade from Release 5-6 to Release 7. There are Ton's of great Add-In's to Sage TV Hope I'm correct. Don't Shoot me!Are we still in this for the long run? I love this thing Long Live Sage TV or is it Ggl-Sage or GSAGE or GTVS or Who Knows?WHY CHANGE I Don't KnowOK Google give us the news!

I own a Ford and they were just bought by Kawasaki. They also closed down all dealerships and won't sell any more of their existing inventory of vehicles. Additionally, they are no longer making or supplying parts and mechanics are no longer allowed to maintain the vehicles. My Ford may be running fine at the moment, but it's probably time to start shopping for another vehicle before it breaks down. Kawasaki may start selling Ford-like vehicles again, but who knows when or if I'll even like them.

When people say that SageTV is the best out there... it's a general statement that when compared to other solutions in the same category that it's the "best". It'll be lacking in some features and it'll be better in others. It's unrealistic to think that any solution will be the "best thing out the for everything"... so the best you can hope for is the best thing out there - overall.. I'd say that while sagetv doesn't support netflix or cablecard natively, it's the best solution out there, overall. You seem a little bitter these past couple of weeks... but you don't need to whack on people because they still think sagetv is the the best out there, even if it is now owned by Google

I have to admit, that since the announcement, the thought of using MCE and a cable card tuner has crossed my mind more than once. Access to some of the channels I don't currently get on my tuner without having to pay the price to rent a DVR box (I think it's up to $17/mo. by me) sounds pretty nice (at least until cable card fees cost more than DVR fees). Also having native Netflix support is a nice plus and I always found channel setup in MCE much better than Sage. I think the greatest strength of SageTV is to suceed with the extenders where no other product out there is even in the ball park. Look at the thread on alternatives to SageTV or extenders, the huge drawback is no extender or limited extender support out there (still a limitation in MCE and probably the only reason I haven't moved over)

As for extenders there are workarounds that I am looking into. I only need native hd audio and bluray playback in the main theater room. So I don't mind transcoding below 12mbs a second or to 720p basically for the other rooms (they aren't 1080p tv's anyhow). Then the xbox will handle them just fine. No solution is perfect or the best. It is all based on your needs and wants. |

and I will say I have been stress testing WMC with Ceton and not one failed recording yet. I have been keeping all 4 tuners going almost 24 hours a day recording and not one miss or glitch recording yet.
I never had a issue with WMC recording though it is solid and works great that isn't the reason I went to SageTv orignally. |

Gerry, I do appreciate your devotion to SageTV and I understand it. I absolutely love it myself. But, I'm a realist and I understand that it may very well be dead forever. I prefer to plan ahead and ensure that I'm ready when things go south. Am I still using SageTV? Yup. Do I plan to switch over tomorrow? Nope. But, I'm making sure that when I choose to or am forced to, that I have something ready to replace it.

That and I don't get a warm fuzzy about integrating my Dish service into WMC (or most other DVRs frankly, maybe it's just lack of research). NextPVR might be close, but I'm not sure it really adds anything over WMC. Everybody else seems to be far, far behind on the DVR front in setup/maintenance if not the whole package. Quote:
The reverse is not true, the extender support is something that does not seem likely to be replicated in the forseable future. If I moved to WMC for TV, I'd have to get something else, like a Dune or other media player for my media, maybe I should just break down and get a Kaleidescape, but no, even they're stuck with that stupid 'vault' for Blu-rays. Maybe it's just because I know them, but Sage's limitations seem much easier to overcome than any other options limitations. |

Silly question, since I haven't recorder with WMC lately.. is the file format NOT convertable into another yet?

I think it's (convertable) so long as the recording wasn't DRM'd.

I will give you the fact that you can't buy any more HD extenders (other than eBay, which, when we find out the future from Google, might have many more available and for cheaper). So if you wanted/needed more for your house, that stinks.
However, I am not worried about the fear of "what about when things break?". Only one major flaw has occurred in the HD extender line thus far - the HD100 power supply capacitors bursting. Shortly after the problem was acknowledged, wise Sage forum users figured out how to DIY-fix it and posted simple instructions here for everyone. I have no doubt that the same thing will happen if some part of the HD200 or HD300 bites the dust in the future, for as long as any of us choose to continue using Sage "as is". And, of course, we don't know for sure that the next release of Google TV won't work as a Sage extender, do we? ![]() So if the hardware isn't an issue, then the only issue is if you are terribly unhappy with the Sage interface and integral capabilities (if so, why are you here?), or always itchy for "new stuff", or always needing constant change and need your software to advance regularly. Well, a lot of that advancing happens here on the plugin forum. Just this past week we got the closest iteration to the old v6 dynamic menus (ADM), and we've had Diamond and Phoenix for a while. Ortus is lingering out there sometime in the future, too. And who knows what else? As for the ending of the EPG support, there are already plugins that remedy this, and I suspect that before the deadline passes, we'll have more options, some of which will get the info for free. As for the lack of Cablecard and native Netflix, personally I don't think we'd have ever gotten either anyway, even if Sage had remained as-is. So there's no need lamenting that. "Never had it, never will", whether Sage or GooSage. I'm sure some day in the future, there will be new developments in the A/V world that haven't even been thought of yet, and at that point, Sage (as we know it now) will officially be antiquated. But until then, we have the most versatile, DRM-FREE, extender-capable PVR program out there. There's probably a lot of people who wish they'd gotten in before the Google buyout. So relax and enjoy what you have. Until we hear from Google, we know absolutely nothing about the future anyway.
