I didn't say that it would be the best option for google... Operates that post with "as a consumer". Nearly all cable customers view their cable company as a necessary evil, and allying directly with them will reduce the market forces that might want this option. They would get much more buzz if this was treated as am alternative to renting advt from the cable co.

I think Google becoming a direct competitor to your Cable Company, even though you are still using them for internet access, could be a good thing for the consumer -- though I wouldn't be too happy about the inability to skip ads. |

I think you'll have a hard time convincing anyone at google (worlds largest advertising company) to let you skip ads, no matter what the distribution method is..

Of course, if they were the tv equivalent of the text ads on google search, it might not be that bad.
The google text search ads are some of the few web ads that I don't block. I'd say that the google text ads are to the crazy "click here now, you may have won $$" flashing popups as the PBS "This program was sponsored by.." is to those "<crank volume to 11> COME ON DOWN TO CRAZY EDDY's USED CARS! WE'VE GOT A DEAL FOR YOU! WE'LL THROW IN A FREE SHOTGUN AND A KEG OF BEER ON ANY PICKUP OVER $2000." And, again, I don't run comskip on my PBS station, but I sure as hell run it everywhere else. Drew

For previously aired/recorded content, it may eventually be something like youtube ads that allow you to skip them after a few seconds. Data collected on how long it takes for viewers to skip ads could be very valuable.

Looks like XBMC Frodo just went to Beta with PVR support. That was the direction I was planning, now I just need to start playing around with it.
I loved SageTV but unfortunately it's a dying product. |
