WHS 2011
I am testing WHS 2011 and after installing the newest WHS sagetv it does not show up in the ADDIN's. So that is making me wonder about the placeshifter license, whether it will or won't work.. When I bring up Sage on this box for the first time it comes up with the usual 21 day trial yada yada. But after I click OK to that, I get another box about sagetv license registration. It Its asking me to enter your new SageTV Media extender or Placeshifter license key below. I had this running on the original WHS and do not remember having to add that. So my guess is I would need to buy a placeshifter key to use that even though it comes free with SageTV WHS. Maybe I am doing something wrong?
Any idea's? -Bill

You don't neccessarliy need to run the WHS of Sage. The regular version of Sage will run as a service and as you can see there is no advantage to running the plugin because it is in the old add-in format
Go to the Start menu and look for the Sage entry. There should still be a menu choice to add a placeshifter license from the menu. If the add-in version doesn't have the regular version of Sage should. (I'm pretty sure it shows up either way.) Gerry

bigbill,
I am running the old WHS version of SageTV on WHS 2011 like you. I don't know about the placeshifter stuff, but I entered my server's license information into that dialog box you mentioned and all went great. I use the WHS version because I couldn't get the Win7 version of SageTV to be as rock solid. Of course, YMMV. Good Luck! |

How did you get it installed? Will the old .msi add-in show up as an add-in to be installed? Or did you run the .msi directly from the console on your WHS2011? I ask because I just had a system disk failure on my WHS V1 and was going to just do a reinstall of V1 again because this is my primary SageTV server. However, if Sage will actually run on WHS2011, then I may make the jump to 2011 right now since I am dead in the water anyhow. Thanks.

I just RDP into the WHS 2011 machine and install the msi file. The add in does not work, but the shortcuts on the start menu work just fine.
I am also checking out Drive Bender, to make things easier. Give that a look as well if you think you will miss Drive Pooling for WHS v1 |

I am not sure my question was answered. The main reason I am need to run it on WHS2011 is to use the free placeshifter license it includes. It seems to be asking for a serial number on WHS2011 so that seems to indicate Sage does not realize its on a WHS server. My original WHS was way too underpowered to use with placeshifter and comskip etc and I cannot seem to find a copy of the old version to install on a more powerful machine that would allow placeshifter transcoding and comskip.
I can live without comskip, but need placeshifter now. Does anyone know a way to allow another, more powerful machine to do the placeshifter transcoding. Geez why the heck won't Sage sell me a placeshifter license. Its not like they gave me any warning so I could purchase one before they closed shop. Bill
