WHS 2011 from WHS1 & STV6: What are my options?

I was running Windows Home Server v1 and SageTV for WHS v6. I have recently transitioned to a new server running WHS 2011 and I want to run the new SageTV v7 on it.

I've read that the old WHS plugin does not work under WHS 2011, but that the basic program can be run on WHS 2011. I went ahead and downloaded/installed SageTV v7 trial on my server, and it does work fine. I also downloaded/installed SageTV Client v7 trial on my desktop, and it works great as well. I am about to build a HTPC and want to put another Client on that. The problem is I can't buy licenses for any of these machines now that SageTV is owned by Google and I can't buy a v7 license of any sort.

I am wondering what my options are.

If you want to use V7 there are free upgrades for the server software here. You just install the regular V7 software. Then follow instructions in the upgrade post and your server is running V7 with a V5 or V6 license. The client upgrade has always been free but you can't buy new licenses.

Thanks for the link, it may come in useful.

There is still the problem of running Placeshifter 7 to connect to the server -- I don't have a v7 license.

My V5 HD100 licenses work on V7. They are the same type of license as a Placeshifter license. So if you HAVE a placeshifter license it should work. You just can't purchase new ones. But if you installed the regular SageTV server install instead of the WHS version you wouldn't have the included license that you got with the WHS version of SageTV. You might try installing the WHS version. Just double click on the msi file and I think you will get to install it. Then you would get the SINGLE placeshifter license. You just don't get to install and configure it in the WHS dashboard (that what the new connector is called isn't it?). At least I thought that I read where someone did it that anyway.
