Is there a way to change the Power On state of extenders

Is there a way to change a setting so that when an extender is power cycled that it goes into standby state rather than On state?

I have 7 extenders connected to my system - 2xHD-300 and 5xHD-200. If all of these extenders are powered on simultaneously it causes JVM issues. The best I can do is run about 4 at the same time.

But if my overall electricity supply to the house toggles then it causes these extenders (at least those that are not plugged into UPS) to reboot and go into the Power On state. My server is on a UPS so it does not reboot. This means that many of my extenders are now connected to the Sage server.

It would be nice if I could change an option so that the Power On default is to enter standby state. Is this possible?

No, you cannot go into stand by directly without going into sage first (unless you power on all the extenders BEFORE your server via timers), however I reckon THIS plugin can help you. I use it daily to keep my extenders in stand by during the day...

You're welcome. Please be aware that you can switch this capability on/off on a per extender basis (via plugin configuration page), however the time out is global for all the extenders.

What command do you use in the Sage APIs to shut down an extender? I took a quick look through the API docs online and I couldn't figure out what Class such a command would fall under.

There isn't such an API from Sage I'm afraid. When you download the "Automatic Power Off" plugin there are two others java libraries I've implemented that depends on it, "Power On/Off" and "Telnet" which in turn opens a telnet connection to the extender and switches the extender On or Off directly.

Is the code viewable if I install the plugin? If not is your code available on the net?

You can install the libraries indirectly via "Automatic Power Off" plugin or directly in the library section. The plugins are respectively "Power On/Off" and "Telnet". The two jar files are installed in "JARs" with the name "power.jar" and "telnet.jar". There isn't any dependency from SageTV in the jars, you need to have "jre5" at least installed and you can freely include the jars into your project if you want. The interface to the java class is pretty simple, see examples below:

Power On/Off

Code:
import power;
import telnet;

Power power = new Power();

if (power.on("Extender IP address") == true)
{
    System.out.println("Extender powered on");
}
if (power.off("Extender IP address") == true)
{
    System.out.println("Extender powered off");
}
Telnet

Code:
import telnet;

Telnet session = new Telnet();
String reply;

if (session.open("Extender IP Address") == true)
{
    session.send("Command to execute string, but not bother to the reply");
    reply = session.send("Command to execute string that have reply and you're interested in");
    session.close();
}
If you have any question please feel free to PM me...

Eddy

I know you can power on/off extenders via SJQ but not sure about standby mode.

Might want to touch base with Slugger regarding his GlobalHelpers.
