Just wanted to say "So Long"
I have had a blast using SageTV, I have really enjoyed it. Unfortunately, I have to move on for technical reasons. All of a sudden, I could not get reliable recordings from my Ceton InfiniTV. Certain channels would record, but the file would not be playable in Sage or VLC (or anything). Interestingly, if I fired up Windows Media Center (which I still had configured with Ceton) the channel would play fine. My best guess is that Comcast was doing something that SageDCT simply could not handle and still produce a usable file. I know SageDCT just "spit out the bits", but I tried everything, all the troubleshooting, posted questions, etc. I even completely rebuilt my system, and still had the same problems. This is not a request for help or support, I have already sold my extenders, and I am fully on Windows Media Center. It has been a tough transition, some pluses, lots of minuses, but it works, and reliably gets my TV recorded.
I just wanted to thank everyone here on the SageTV forums. Great people, great add-in developers, and great support. You guys are the best!

I too am sadly headed in that direction soon enough. It seems more and more channels on FIOS are just not working happily with my CETON cards (NFL Network this past month), but work flawlessly with WMC and I have to enable them to be recorded via my old solution -- HD PVR and cable box. Its really weird and irksome with the recording glitches and unplayable files. I am holding out until the echos are available as I need extenders. I still don't fully understand the logic of MS not allowing another Windows Media Center machine to connect via a client server type setup ala mythTV.

DRM. The recording path must be a closed system and you could install something on your client to intercept and record the stream. It would be harder with a XBOX extender.

FYI.
Andy did implement a fix for this in sagedct. But things will eventually just start to break as the product is abandoned from "official" resources and if folks such as Andy decide to call it quits. |

Yeah, it's on an extender. Just haven't had a chance to test any of the files from a desktop to make sure the video is playable outside of SageTV. I'll have to try tonight, as well as testing it inside a SageTV Client. It just started happening recently, and in a hurry I've just gotten the episodes from other sources.
Also need to investigate to see if the recordings are all on one specific device (either my Prime or my old HD Homerun) and if it is by chance just a specific tuner on the device. It's weird because it isn't just one channel, and I've had other recordings on the same channel that record and playback fine. It's been recordings on local prime channels as well as channels like Comedy Central and Syfy. |

If Andy runs it through VLC useing rtp to fix a stream can't we run it through VLC after the fact to fix a file that doesn't play?

These files would not play in VLC either. At first I thought they were getting encrypted, but the really weird thing is that they were getting comskiped fine, with the resulting EDL file having logically marked commercial breaks, so I am pretty sure the files were not encrypted. Immaterial now anyway, SageTV is in the rear view mirror for me...sad but true.

Just curious how you setup WMC, 7MC at every TV or extendders? XBOX extenders? And what are you doing for ripped content from DVD\BD etc. I am not far behind you at htis point for similar reasons. I am still testing 7MC in a VM with 2 Xbox extenders, waiting for the Echo.

VideoRedo Also has a utility (Stream Fix?) that makes the files playable, but I am way past that now.
