Watching Formula1 on SkyTV online

I just learned that here is the US Formula1 will be broadcast by NBC instead of SpeedTV which is a potential disaster if NBC dummies down the broadcast to appeal to NASCAR fans. I've read that it's possible to stream SkyTV but the practice may fall into the gray zone of legality. Anybody here know more about this?

Most likely, if you're not in the UK then you need to some kind of VPN or "smart" DNS service (aka http://unblockus.com) to view UK content online.

Additionally, I think with SkyTV you need be an actual SkyTV customer to watch their content/channels online (somewhat like you need to be an HBO customer to view HBO content online) which I doubt is possible for US residents but I might be wrong.

I did a bit of google around and it does look like lots of people end up going the Sling route with SkyTV.

Have you poked around the SkyTV website at all? I was able to "register" but since I'm not a customer, I couldn't go beyond that. So I started looking at packages and I couldn't find an "online/streaming" only package but I didn't look SUPER hard.

Unfortunately there is no online only package, you have to have a normal SkyTV subscription and they then give you the SkyGo online package free.

The details are here

http://www.sky.com/shop/tv/sky-go/

It looks like you have to register the devices you want to use so you can't just browse to the website, be it through a proxy or not. I haven't got a Sky subscription so I can't say exactly how it works.

The F1 is also shown on BBC, with half being shown live and the other half being shown a few hours later. These are available through BBC iPlayer, but I think that is only accessable via a UK IP address.

I did look at the SkyGo package but also came to the conclusion you need to be a SkyTV customer in the UK.

I'm in no big rush, the 2013 season doesn't start until March and I'm not even sure how good or bad the NBC coverage will be. I just don't want to get caught with my foot off the throttle when the red lights go out.

Eddy - Thanks for the thought.
