Other than the guy doing the 'review' having no concept of modern television, or DVR's in general - not terrible... I will say the UI is terrible compared to the current SageTV/Gemstone setup...

I like this page though... Especially the version numbers:
Hopefully, for the modders (if that ends up being allowed), there are ways to eek out more JVM heap size than 400MB they are running now...

I wonder, also, in that sort of regard, if we can somehow get a look at that FiberTV.opt.stv file...

OK, so people were right, they didn't bother porting to Android.
What's with the max 403 MB heap? And 660+ GB's of storage is already gone? Does it have Intelligent recording by default? Didn't seem like he had that many shows visibly banked. Paraphrasing now... "having to fast forward through commercials on DVR's... don't know whether this is common or not?" Verbal comments like this remind me why I never post anything on YouTube. And "no one should pay for Showtime"?? Homeland dude. Happy though that he took the time to post some info. |

The UI is very stream lined. I'm glad google stepped in here. That was always one of sage's problems to me. The default UI had too much going on and wasn't very pleasing to the eye. I dare to say, if they had more eye candy in the default UI it would have increased sage's user base substantially. It amazes me how many people out there that use various media center platforms just did not know about sage or wrote it off. But I do realize this is a personal thing and everybody has their UI opinions. |

Jeff refused to answer whether there would be a consumer product and put a winkie smiley after it. I have a feeling we will see SageTV v.8.1. They need to build a streamline version first, and then add back in support for various tuners.

I'm wondering if the non fiber version will have a recording box that replaces the currect sage server/tuners, but allows connections from our current extenders and clients and also allows most of our current plug ins.

I'd be more interested if someone in KC has an HD300 they can put on the network, and see if it at least detects the 'Storage box' as a server.

Wow. How did this clueless guy figure out how to make a video for YouTube? I so wish Jeff would send out a crew to hook up my Google Fiber TV before Summer 2013 so I could do a proper review and tips & tricks. I'm pretty sure I could "sell" Google Fiber to the next neighborhoods by leaps and bounds. What do you think Jeff
I was screaming at this guy while watching his video so many times. He says "am I an idiot?" YES! Hit the dang stop button genius! Last edited by Brent; 11-18-2012 at 04:39 PM. |

Brent, if you get too bored and I start ripping my hair out on my SageTV build, I'm still open to bribing you down to Lenexa to help.
Warning: You might get more yelling practice and "idiot" stories.... |

When I first learned about Sage's sale to Google, I thought like everyone else, "What's happening to MY SageTV?" I also kind of wondered if all of Sage's features would be nothing more than a subfeature of a massive Google project, but after seeing the actual product in action it's pretty clear that Sage's genius really is the heart of Google Fiber.
Can you imagine how exciting this time must be for Jeff!! |

/sarcasm I couldn't agree more. Maybe I simply enjoy being happy for people who work hard and manage to accomplish something impressive, but I think the guys of SageTV have every right to celebrate and be happy. I also think it's pretty damn cool that Google chose SageTV for their fiber project. Considering they apparently didn't just want the IP or to kill the product, that's one serious tip of the hat!

I'm thankful that my SageTV setup continues to power along - and that I live in Kansas City, Missouri!
I hope Jeff gets his wish and SageTV/Google FiberTV goes global and makes everyone happy. Have a great Thanksgiving to all of you U.S. SageTVers! |

Oh, nothing at moment. I'm still squaring off parts. My Sage system building had been on hold for years (and years) till I FINALLY upgraded to an HDTV. Thanks to the Sears BF sale, I got one of the Toshiba 50" LED tvs for $300.
I'm working on scoring deals on parts at moment (2 HDD, USB-UIRT, processor / mobo, blu-ray drive, memory to go yet). If I do need something, I'll holler though if you don't mind and hopefully it's something easy. If not, the gf and I both cook really well and you might get a great braised meal out of it. |
