I've ordered a set of headphones that can accept an optical audio cable as input. I currently have an HD300 connected to my TV via HDMI. Audio plays through my TV speakers. Can I use the optical out on the HD300 to feed my headphones and will that result in both audio to the headphones via optical and audio to the TV via HDMI simultaneously? If this can be done, what is the proper audio setup on the HD300 to make this happen?

This would be the ideal setup for me as I can simply mute the TV speakers when using the headphones. Is this possible?

Thanks,
Peter

I decided to give this a try. I tried every combination of audio settings available, but no sound. I have to assume that when the HDMI output is in use, no audio is output to the optical port. It must come in to play when using the svideo output only.

As an alternative, I ran an optical cable up to the TV. It works great. I can still mute the TV speakers and get sound out through to the headphones. It took a bit of work to run the cable through the wall to the TV, but it is probably a better setup in the long run anyway.
