Playback locks up at times

At different times when playing a recorded show back on the hd 300 extender. The video will lockup for a few seconds with no audio. And after 20-30-40 seconds the show will start playing again in a real fast frame rate for 20 seconds or so and then it all syncs back up. Now when this happens the hard drive light comes on continuous for the time it acts up. It allways seems to be just once in the recorded show. Also it does not seem to have a pattern that I can see when it does it. Does anyone have any idea why this is happening?

Thanks
Wayne

I had this happen too. Figured it was a network issue. Did a lot of log analysis, swapping network cards, perfmon analysis. Never did get the root cause nailed down.

I finally resolved it by virtualizing my SageTV server as a VM on ESXi.

Another thing to check that crops up as a problem with similar symptoms for me once in a while is orphaned comskip temp files in my Recorded TV folder. I don't have anything automated to clean these up and once they get over ~5,000 orphaned files I start to see playback issues and clean them up. Then I tell myself I should automate that and promptly forget about it until the next time.

Do these files get left on your drive that the videos are on or the system hard drive? I have 4 hard drives and 3 are pooled, I cannot find any orphaned files. I was just wandering where these files are exactly so I can double check for them.
Thanks

I had this issue years ago. For me the pause was caused by the amount of time it took a sleeping drive to wake up.

See this thread.
