Some fanart works and some does not

Hi there,

I have been having an issue with fanart displaying in Gemstone.

Some of my movies show the fanart properly in Gemstone views and others do not. I have not been able to find any sort of pattern to it. Each newly added movie might work or might not.

I can check my BMT web server and see that fanart is available. I can check the Fanart Manager within Gemstone and see that fanart is availble there also. I have tried the 'remove cache' option in the Fanart Manager, but that didn't change anything.

I read a few of the posts here in the Gemstone forums about fanart problems, but none of them seemed to apply.

I have tinkered with the fanart size by using the Fanart Manager. I had shrunk the fanart to be smaller in hopes that my HD300 would populate faster. After doing so I did a full cache delete and re-build. I used the 'force rebuild all now' option.

Any clues?

Thanks
Les

I have noticed this too but still not sure why....but when time permits I will try to narrow it down and if I can find it, then fix it.

If you discover a pattern, let me know.

I've seen this with banners too. Just a blank banner no text, nothing. Seems to 'stick' with the particular show(s) and there's no obvious pattern regarding which show(s) it happens too. The fanart is there and does show up in the fanart manager... changing the default has no effect. And the same blanks are fired on all devices... in case that matters.

Will do, thanks for looking into this

I have had this same experience. I have 4 extenders and they all seem to be showing the same results; good or bad.

For me it always seems to be movies... never a TV Series.

Let me know if you see the same...it may help to narrow it down.

PS: at some point I might need some debug log files from those of you seeing this issue... it may help to find the issue.

Thanks

I have never seen it happen for TV shows, only movies.

I would be happy to provide some debug logs. What would you like and how do I get them?

Thanks

I saw that today when I added some movies fanart did not download I believe this started happening when IMDB was removed from BMT fanart downloads. I used the CMT plugin and I was able to download the fanart.

You are correct in that at times the fanart may not have downloaded...but in the cases mentioned here I have always been able to open fanart manager in Gemstone and the fanart existed...it just does not display in the flow.

It turns out I am a liar I was looking at some TV shows last night. I found 2 series that had download art visible in the Fanart Manager but would not display in the UI.

Also, it's not just "everything after x date is broken". I added about a dozen movie rips to my server last night and they all worked.

Thanks
Les

+1 for Movies

+1 for movies only. Diamond has been doing this for what seems like months. I just thought a forced cache rebuilt or RAM disk would fix it. That's what I was researching this morning actually.

This weekend I decided to do a test. I had my fanart set to be scaled smaller then normal, and I wondered if that was causing the problems. I reset all sizes to default, cleared my cache (both in memory and in file), and then had it prebuild everything at once. After a while I cam back to test the results. None of my banners or covers show up now. They are all there in the fanart manager, however none of them render in the views.

Odd right? =/

Well at least it's consistent now,... right?

FWIW I beleive all my banner's are and have been at default size. I'm reluctant to play hide and seek with them but if there's a step or two I can do that helps track this down lmk.

It would be interesting to see the user data stored on the movies that are failing compared to one where the default poster is displaying. I am not at my PC right now but you can see the data using the webui as well as bmt. A Phoenix core call stores a record on the movie record in the wiz.bin stating where to find the default fanart item so if I could compare a movie entry showing fanart and one not perhaps that would help me resolve this.

fwiw, this issue completely went away for me when I did the 'check folder first' option and had gemstone pick up the MyMovies poster & background images...
I am not sure if this is a real fix, a "magic" fix (ie just a coincidence), or if gemstone just doesn't like BMT's artwork for some odd reason...
but anyway, fwiw it seemed to work...
only issue I found is the first time through, there is a noticeable pause while it gets the artwork...

That's not really a fix, just a look elsewhere for an image. I'm not going to say it won't work for you, but you have to HAVE MyMovies, or something else creating folder based fanart, for it to be of any use.

I did just go through and redownload my fanart the other day, so I do have a few that are not showing. I'll try to look into them to see if there is a common thread keeping them dark.

I wish I could do this for you, but ever since I cleared my cache I have no movies working any more =/

I will double check my BMT webui tonight. However, I am pretty certain it scraped all the art, because I can see the art showing up in the Fanart Manager that is part of Gemstone.

You lost me there, ha ha. If I can get a working movie and a broken movie again, then I will get back to you on this part

Thanks

One thing I did just notice is I have a whole bunch of tiny fanart items in my cache under gemstoneimages...622bytes that view as a small square of a color...I don't know if this is related at all as deleting these did not solve the issue.

I also went into fanart manager, pressed select on the first poster and selected remove from cache and that solved one of the 2 I was testing with...but not the other....anyway....I will keep digging.

Don't bother with the userdata I mentioned earlier....I don't think that is the issue.

I created a wiped clean client install on my test system, and this is what I get when opening up a new 360 view. (No fanart caching)

gemstone.log:

hopefully this helps track it down a little bit...

oh, I am not claiming it is THE fix, or even a good fix... just that it did seem to fix it for me...
and that it seems to point to there being some issue (real or imaginary) with the BMT artwork...
