"unable to get metadata"

For some reason everytime I try and get metadata (for movies), it finds the movie on the various databases, but whenever I click on the movie name, it says "unable to get metadata". This is new problem as BMT has worked great in the past.

The only changes I have made recently were to clone the old system drive I thought was failing to a new drive. Sage is working perfectly otherwise. I also updated a number of plugins, but received no errors.

Any suggestions?

Thanks in advance for the help

If you are talking about the BMT GUI, IMDB no longer works. It still finds the film but returns "unable to fetch" when you select something.

TheMovieDB is not working either, but it also does not work from their own web site. You get an "error 500". If you remove IMDB from the search providers, BMT gui will mostly work when TMDB fixes their issue. It will be missing many newer titles and the more obscure stuff.

IMDB support is provided using nielm's imdb library (since I'm no longer going to support it directly). I did find a small issue with imdb this morning and I've passed it along. I'll also try to handle it in my code as well.

As for TMDB it's the best source we have for movie information. It's free and it's user contributed, it has an open api (unlike imdb), so the more people update it, the better data we'll get.

Stuckless, thank you for your response. But this is happening with TMDB also. When I go to the site, I can see many posters and backdrops. But when I go through the BMT GUI, it finds the movie and I click on it, it says "unable to get metadata".

I was trying this with "Django Unchained".

Any suggestions?

I'm at a loss here... there is definately a problem, but I've tried all the movies that people have said that have failed, on my system, and every one of them have worked, included Django Uchained. I had one failure using IMDB, but that should not affect The Movie Db.

I am having the same issue. I was away for a few day but since yesterday I cannot get BMT to find metadata from tmdb or imdb for any movies I have tried.

Sample log entry...

I've had this issue for the last several days now. Most recently with "Silver Linings Playbook" and "Cirque du Soleil Worlds Away"

After doing some troubleshooting with bialio I can't find the problem, but I've concluded that the V3 library API is causing the issue... even though the errors are not being logged. So, Tonight, I'm going to try and restore the v2 api which does still work. So in the next release, tmdb will use v2 api and tmdb3 will use the v3 api. I'm guessing for some people the v3 api must work, since it works for me. I can't find the "missing link" as to what is causing the failures in the v3 api. The reason why the updated imdb fails, is because it relies on the tmdb v3 api for resolving fanart. So this next release should hopefully enable the tmdb support once again... complete with catalogues of russian images

Thanks for making the v2 tmdb available again, that has fixed the problem for me. Where is it in the configuration where I can set it to be the default source for BMT?

UNless you have changed it in the past, the default will be set to tmdb, imdb (which means to use tmdb, then imdb if tmdb fails.

But if you want verify that you as using tmdb, as the default, you can go to BMT web, and then go to Configure -> Phoenix -> Fanart/Metadata Options and check out the Movie Metadata Provider field.

Sorry, I should have been more clear with my question. I meant to ask about the list of services in the BMT web UI that is shown in the Search Options dialog that you get after clicking Find Metadata. Currently mine defaults to tmdb3 and I have to change it to tmdb for each search.

Thanks.

My previous comment still applies... just look in the configuration that i specified.. and see if tmdb or tmdb3 is set. If tmdb3 is set, then change to tmdb. If BMT defaults to a provider (which I'm not sure it does intentionally) then it should default based on the value in that field.

I had tried that before but it didn't seem to make any difference in the find metadata search dialog so I assumed it was just for what phoenix is using for background searches or something. I'll attach some pics showing what I'm seeing here.

I didn't think that I set a preferred provider in code... but I must I'll take a look later to see if can find out where I'm doing this, and change it back to tmdb.

+1 on this behavior for me too. I haven't imported a new movie yet since updating the plugin, so I cannot say if the auto metadata importer works again or not.

I have just reinstalled Sage and when trying to get Metadata it seems to be defaulting to tmdb3 which always fails. But plain old tmdb seems to work fine - has this been changed back to tmdb?

Go to BMT Configure -> Phoenix -> Fanart/Metadata Options and then set the Movie Provider to be tmdb.

I've done this and BMT still defaults to tmdb3 which doesn't work for me for some reason.

Is there anything else that I can do?

Thanks,
Chris
