Samsung buys Boxee (for $30 million)

(not that anyone cares but, well, you know...)

The Boxee TV was pretty cheap, but if I had bought one I'd be pretty upset by them already pulling the cloud DVR service.

Pretty sad really. Here we are mid 2013 and we still don't have anything approaching what Sage already does. The smart TV's are generally not very smart and the various DVR options out there are all lacking...

I do think there are close alternatives out there from DirecTV and Dish with their Genie and Hopper products respectively. While I continue to use SageTV and soley because it is an aggregation point for my Cable, DirecTV, and OTA Locals I have been tempted to pitch it all out the window for one of these products. I like sagetv's comskip options which I continue to use however my wife and I joined Hulu and she watches most everything that we don't watch together on her ipad. If Roku would let me watch my library of DVD and Bluray rips I think I would make that move even quicker. When I saw Boxee being bought and absorbed for another pupose not unlike sagetv I thought there goes the neighborhood.

Throw those rips on a Plex Media Server and you're good to go on the Roku... (but you probably already knew this).

Have you not seen/used PLEX yet? I still use Sage as my recording engine and then use PLEX as my front end via my ROKU(s) and my Tablets...
