Installing plex on sage server?

Thinking about playing with plex this weekend. Does it have much impact if installed directly on the sage server (.ie, can it run in the background without screwing other things up?) Any reason I wouldn't want to do that?

I have it running on my Sage server without issue but I don't use Plex much. You may not want to install the latest version of Plex - see the thread on the Sage plex scanner.

The latest Version has fixed the problem with scanning files.

with the specs in your sig i do not believe you will have any issues running plex on the same box. Plex will start to eat up cycles and ram if you are doing a lot of transcoding, and mutliple transcode streams at that...

newest patch for PMS should fix issues you would read about over on the scanner thread.

If you use phoenix i would check out the phoenix channel for plex that Sean has been working on.

I have them both running on a core2duo M5 laptop. The other day, I tested Plex transcoding (CPU was hitting 100%) whilst Sage was playing to my HD300 and I didn't notice any problems on the HD300

+1 for Pix64's metadata scanner & stuckless' Plex channel

I currently have Plex (with a PlexPass) and really like it so far. I have a Roku in the living room along with the HD300 but now only use Sage for recorded or live TV. I have read that you could get Plex to see and play your recorded shows but I'm not sure I know how to set that all up. Is it pretty straight forward? I have read about the Phoenix channel but don't know what that is or how it plays a part in this. I run Sage on a separate server and Plex on another server. I truly love the way Plex gives you the ability to stream your shows out over the net (albeit at a reduced bit rate) and the interface is nice. Now if I could get it to see my Sage recorded shows. Does anyone have a Wiki or setup manual to set that up?
