Looking to Batch Change MP4 Metadata

I'm looking for a tool that can update the title in MP4 videos. My goal is to copy the entire file name (show-SE-Title) into the title position of MP4 files. I can do it now with VLC on a one by one basis. But I'd prefer a CLI tool that I can stick in a windows batch file. Anybody know of a windows/DOS based tool that will do this? I checked the VLC CLI details, but I did not find anything.

Thanks!

Bobby

Are these files coming from SageTV? I think there is something called the Phoenix renamer or something like that which can do the trick.

Oh and you can also do this with SJQ - in fact Slugger posted the code in the SJQv4 thread a couple of years ago.

Thanks for the response!! I did did try the Phoenix-Renamer. It renames the files, but not the title tag/metadata inside the MP4. I realize I probably didn't get this across in my original query.

I'll check through the SJQ thread to see what I find, but I suspect it also only renames the files, and not the files internal metadata/tag (VLC calls it the files metadata when I do it manually, others call it the files tag data).

So far the only tool I've found that references updating MP4 Video tags on a windows box is iTunes. I want to try every other possibility before turning to iTunes, as its so resource hungry.

Sorry, I misunderstood. I don't know that MP4 tags are really that standard or used that much. It seems like most applications use the filename or another external metadata files, like SageTV's .properties files.

Atomic Parsley. It's not just for breakfast anymore! I tried this with one of my mp4s and it was able to update the title tag in the file from the command line.

No Sweat. My OP was not descriptive enough, and I appreciate the response anyway.

Actually, it was in Gemstone that I noticed a few odd names showing in the "Recent Movies" widget. This widget appears to have been reading whatever was in the tags and displaying this as the name of the movie. It may just be a setting that I have set wrong in Gemstone, but changing the MKV and MP4 metadata tags cleared this up.

Yes. Thank You!! This does the trick. I'm not sure why AP has to make a new file each time (VLC just updates the existing tag), but it does work fine for batch updating the tags in MP4 files.

Again, THANKS!
