HD300 extenders will be open sourced as well too?

I hope HD300 extenders will be open source as well too so we can add newer usb wifi drivers to it.

Today usb wifi stick are much better compare to ones 5 years ago.

There is quite a bit of discussion on this, including info from narflex himself, in the original open source thread.

Existing HD-X00 Extenders + Open Source?

I'm curious if the existing extenders will continue to work with the sublicensed code removed from the Open Source release? I guess that is to say is there anything licensed in those extenders, in software, firmware, or proprietary drivers for any of the for example video decoding chips? (Think nVidia drivers under Linux)....

Aside from that, HOORAY! I was just starting to break down again and look at sickly alternatives to Sage which continues to serve me well.

You asked two very different questions.

The current extenders will continue to work with the open source release of Sage. Jeff says backward compatibility with the extenders is a high priority.

The second question is whether there is licensed code in the extenders necessary for them to function. There's certainly licensed code from the SoC provider. For a variety of reasons, you're unlikely to see updates to the HD300 firmware. Releasing the code might give someone a head start if they were able to get the SDK for, say, the Hauppauge streamer.

Hmm. If it meant them selling more SoC's, (though it would probably take more than just us in quantity), the SDK may be revealed.

I was afraid your answer re: unlikely to see updates would be what it is. I wonder if the firmware (Sage specific) will be open sourced or if JTAG would be a dirty word.

Re those with WifI issues, just grab an Apple Airport Express put it in client mode and put a patch cable in between.
