Can no longer maximize the video using the SageTV Client

Hey Sean,

Do you want to hear about problems (not sure I should call them bugs) about this or is this all to soon? And if you do where do you want to hear about it?

Starting with 9.0.1.0 and now 9.0.2.0, Using the SageTV Client I can no longer maximize the video. The Sage Client window will maximize and resize but the video stays the same size, won't resize smaller either just stays the same size, looks like maybe sized for a phone?

Thanks for your work on this!

Rick

Is this Linux or Windows? You can probably go ahead and create a bug for this in the sagetv github issues tracker. This is likely a side effect of the changes that I did to upgrade JOGL for the miniclient on Linux.

I was playing back content via the PC Client with 9.0.1.3 installed without issue, so I'd put good money on it being the Linux Client.

Yep, it is the Linux client on Ubuntu 14.04.03. It was working on your first release. I upgraded to the 9.0.2.0 release and now the video won't resize. Stays the same size no matter how the sage client window is sized.

Is 3d acceleration turned on in the settings? (I just want to make sure it's the jogl piece) I run linux so this should be pretty easy for me to test.

That's good to know... since JOGL (opengl) is only used when 3d acceleration is turned on. What happens when you turn on 3d acceleration? I didn't change any of the non-jogl parts from what I remember, but I'll double check. BTW, is it the UI that doesn't resize, or the Video, or both?

When I turn on 3d acceleration the UI is all scrambled, can't tell what's what. Just the video doesn't resize, the UI does. Funny thing is the video stays one size it won't get any smaller either.

I reverted the Nvida driver from 355.11 to 352.55 I can resize the video now but only if 3D acceleration is turned on. If I have it turned off the video remains the same size.

Also went into Nvidia Settings, to OpenGL Settings and maxed the slider to High Performance and it is running the UI and resizing fine, the menus have transparency over the video and don't flicker when I try to use them, it looks great. Thanks for working on this, I didn't think I'd see a 64bit Linux client. :-)

Yeah, I've been meaning to follow up with this. I tested this locally, and my results were mixed. With OpenGL turned on, it would crash. I also have a nvidia card with nvidia drivers. When I turned off OpenGL, I also didn't get video, but, when I turned on "xvmc" in the properties, I got video to work and it would resize, but, the video controls would flicker above the video, so it becomes hard to control player. So, while I couldn't replicate your exact behaviour, I did, replicate lots of other issues

I think my goal, once, I get further along on the Android client, is to use those sources to build a newer Miniclient using JavaFX and https://github.com/caprica/vlcj for the desktop. I haven't played with vlcj (which only works on the desktop), but I'm wondering if that would be a better choice, especially for Linux, where the video playback and UI is problematic at best.

Yep, it's working pretty good now, can't wait to see what you all come up with! I'm anxious to try out the Android client too.
